Assuming Jarred and Barry want to put up with all of us again ... hehehe... What Genre would you like the next fest to be?

Whoever had that Mockumentary idea, that sounds fun. Not that I'd actually participate... or anything.

I was adding a poll... damn bricemen, if you slept once in a while you wouldn't be so quick to reply... hehehe ;)

Boooooo to horror thriller. So predictable. So easy. So b-movie. So done-already-in-zombie-fest.

If "maritime swashbuckler" isn't going to be a category in the poll, I have to vote for 'comedy'. It's a social equalizer. Shooting for the funniest movie kinda FORCES people to make content king. Not all the beautiful 24p flawless dolly-moves in the world will make someone laugh. So aside from putting technically inexperienced people on a level-playing field with the pros, it forces everyone to focus on the content a bit, which is a welcome push in this obsessed (Mini35, Arri, etc...) forum.

Don't get me wrong, I'm obsessed with all the technical stuff like everyone else, and I love beautiful cinematography, otherwise I wouldn't frequent this board. But it tends to take-on excessive importance in our minds, and a comedy-fest would make that overtly apparent.

Noir isn't a genre, but a style of filmmaking. Any genre of movie can be made as a Noir.

Noir isn't really that limiting either. It covers everything from German Expressionism to 80's crime drama ("Black Rain" for example.)

Stylistically, lighting should be high-contrast. Thematically, the stories should be dark -- the hero realizes only too late something that could have changed the outcome. "Sin City" is noir.

As for myself, I'm going for a new genre: "Pornoir"

Super Hero could fall under "action/adventure"

Noir isn't a genre, but Mark, what you say about Noir could be said for ANY genre. You can make a romance that is sci-fi, a comedy that's a western, etc. etc. I was just starting with the basics -- AND the polling only allowed me 10 options so I couldn't add any more ;)

Folks were getting pretty pumped about super hero, and the Super-Fest, over in the Cafe. My Action/Adventure vote is actually for Super-Hero. Because I think we need the internet nerd trifecta: zombies, sci-fi, super heroes. :)

I also voted for Romance. I've been gung ho for noir for a long time, but Romance would make a unique challenge!!! Whatever it is, let's get started!!!

I want another vote so I can help put Romance over Comedy and Horror. I voted for Noir, but I'll be happy enough with Romance. "Action" I was agains,t but it sounds a lot more appealing with "Adventure" tagged on.
