Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

My wife has given me the go-ahead to purchase a DVX-100B. This will be my first camera so I'm incredibly stoked to finally go out there and make my own stuff without waiting to get a DP together.

There's no question in my mind that I will be using EVS. Am I allowed to know the discount that Rush gives beforehand or is that a secret until you order?

Thanks!

Edit: Or should I not concern myself with the DVX at all and move on to the HVX? The camera we buy is going to be for making movies, not doing weddings, or anything like that. Heck, we know we probably won't even make our money back and that's fine. But I would feel a bit nervous buying the HVX considering it just came out and I'm sure there will be problems that will need fixing. Thoughts or opinions?

That's a budgetary question, primarily. The DVX100B is a great little camera and works well for filmmaking; there were at least four or five DVX-shot movies in the theaters simultaneously last year. But the HVX is a better camera in so many ways (except the DVX is a stop more sensitive). I mean, there are reasons it costs $2,000 more; the question is do you value those reasons? If you can afford the extra $2,000 for an HVX, you'll be glad you did. If money's tight, the DVX is a great buy and has proven itself over the last several years as a fantastic image-making device.

My recent experience with buying a 100B:

Checked prices on ebay and on google search using model name as search word.

Also checked prices with known reputable camera dealers like B and H.

I used pricegrabber.com for price comparison on known/proven reputable camera sellers (not necessarily authorized Panny dealers).

In the end after weeding out the $2,000. sellers (don't even think about going there), and foregoing the $4,000.+ price tag from (authorized dealer) B and H (w/ 4 year warranty), I went with buydig.com based on price and reputation (also avoiding my states ridiculous sales tax rate).

I ordered only the camera from them which is advertised as coming with both the rebate and the factory warranty at $3,249. with a reasonable amount for shipping ($27. as opposed to $200. from the $2,000. sellers.)

Then I bought the Mack 4 year warranty from another dealer and I was done.

In the end, with the rebate, I'll have spent just under $3K for the NEW AG-DVX100BP camera new with full complement of accessories, MB software, Barry's stuff, AND with 5 years worth of warranty.

I've herd buydig is reputable but there is nothing in writing that says they'll sale you a us model. It's all verbal confirmation. If your going to buy, get one @ EVS. After the Panny rebate i got mine for 3040.
I'm a pour film student but spending an extra 150 bucks knowing I'm getting what i pay for, somehow made me feel good.

When purchasing your investment try not to jeopardize it.

"EVS has the best service. If your a dvx member thy'll hook you up."

I'm not sure what that even means. What "service" is required beyond charging you and shipping the camera? After you get the camera the only "service" you need comes from the manufacturer or the warranty company or both. Maybe I'm missing something, but I bought an XL1 like 6 1/2 years ago from a non-authorized dealer, and 2 XL1s cameras similarly about 2 years ago. For both I got the extended Mack warranty and never had issues.

I sent Rush an e-mail yesterday about getting a 100B before March 1st. When should I expect a reply? Is he usually pretty good about replying in a timely manner? I just don't want to miss out on the $400 rebate. :)

Well, really beyond that point you don't need much service from them, unless however you need accessories. But lets say for some reason you don't get beyond that point or better yet you don't even get to that point. My first experience with buying from an unauthorized dealer was a bad one. I never actually got the camera and you can bet they charged my credit card. That was a mess.
Well, what if you do get the camera in and it doesn't work. Good luck trying to get a refund from the unauthorized dealer.

Those who wan't to order from unauthorized dealers should ask Chris Santucci to order it for you. He seems to have the good luck with them.

Unfortanetly I was not.

Just a thought.

I think we're talking about 2 different flavors of camera dealers. I wouldn't do business with any camera dealer who didn't have a solid reputation, and these days it's very easy to determine which dealer is a risk and which isn't. There are plenty of non-authorized Panasonic dealers who can give you the same products you would get from the apparently much revered authorized dealers.

If paying two to five hundred more to an authorized dealer than you would to a non-authorized dealer gets you brownie points with them and it helps them remember your name when you need a break on something, that's cool.

Don't get me wrong, I've argued plenty for patronizing local vendors and having long term relationships with them, which I do. The difference is, I can walk into my local guys business and talk face to face about gear at length, and he cuts me plenty of slack because I give him most of my business.

Regarding my own personal 100B purchase from buydig.com last week, I got ALL the same stuff that you get from any other dealer AND an extra 4 years of warranty for under $3K. And, I received the camera the day after I ordered it.

Did you get an extended warranty? As a piece of advice to anyone thinking about accessories or other gear for use with ANY camera of this type. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FIRST and worry about the other stuff after you know you won't have to shell out big bucks for a new drum 2 years into the camera's life.

After reviewing this thread, I ordered a 100b from abelcine.com today and so far its been going smooth..3480 total with next day air shipping. Very excited. After recieving camera I will share my experience with abel cine. :)

How much does a Dvx100b come out too with a dvxuser.com discount at EVS? Also, does a dvxuser.com discount work with studio-exchange?

letters after the b in DVX100B?

letters after the b in DVX100B?

Anyone know what the letters after the B in DVX100B stand for?
I got my DVX last week. It has to be returned due to a loud
clunking sound when the camera is moved. The model I received
was a DVX100BP with a S surrounded by a box after that.
I want to make sure I will be getting a model I can use the rebate on
and also not a "PAL" model.
