This is a MUST SEE, New Trailer shot on DVX

it could use some tigtening up.... some of the lines were pretty good (the 99 cent college), the "sideways" esque shot towards the end as the drug dealer was chasing them was neat.

there are some cliches in there but its not that bad, good work

No dolly crane and no stead cam.... all hand held and tripod.
The rolling supermarket scenes were shot on a regular moving dolly, the camera man sat in it, and we pulled him along... make shift, but looked cool.

I always here... "tighten it up a bit".... but if it gets too tight, it's gets choppy and doesn't have a nice flow. I'm not sure where the line is, but as long as the meaning of the trailer gets across... I figure , what the hell. But thanks for your comments....

I think with trailers of this kind (comedy, etc) you want to hit the viewer with some good lines and shots but dont give them everything.... there is a tendency in filmmakers to want to cram too much into a trailer because you think to yourself, "well I HAVE to get that shot in there." It was a good trailer, no doubt, i just think it ran a little long. If the trailer is hitting plot points and moving the story along, while delivering a taste of funny lines and "cool shots" then it wont be choppy. props and good luck.

good points..... but this trailer is just the tip of the iceburg. The story is very complex and the movie is much funnier than the trailer. I didn't want to give anything away. Not much was disclosed at all. I think when the film is sold the trailer will be recut by the dept. heads. I myself don't like trailers that give the whole movie away. IE: "Sideways", the entire movie is disclosed. This trailer was meant to simply show the viewer what type of genre the film is in. Low budget Indy, funny, simple relatable charcs, with an underlying inner city slice of life plot.

You know, good clean dysfunctional family fun!

Hey man - you guys did some wicked camera work. technically i think its really good. I thought the trailer felt a bit slow like someone else mentioned though.

It's time for a movie about us. Just regular people.

aren't those called dramas? ;)

as for the length...trailers run either 1:39 or 2:30. so i guess they're giving you grief on the extra 9 seconds. :D

thanks, yeah, the extra 9 seconds is killing me :)

Actually, M.O.G. is a comedy/drama in the true sense of the word. A very well balanced film. Drama's are usually slow without a little comedy and comedy sucks without any real drama. (I'm being very general here) A little of both makes for a nice film.

I thought it looked really fantastic. I do agree that the trailer could be tightened up. Also, I think the trailer can be focused a little more. This may sound silly, but I don't really get the story from the trailer. First, the guy is getting married, then they're at a bar, then they're being chased and beaten up, then they are doing (acid?)

I think I would just focus it a little to tell us more what the movie is actually about.

But good stuff.

Looks pretty good. I agree that you should tighten it up abit but it def looks interesting.

I think it's interesting how a trailer can seem like a completly different story then the real movie. I find if i like a trailer and go see the movie i usually end up watching something different then i planned on watching.

I don't know if anybody has seen this but I think it's pretty funny...its a good way to show how tricky editing/trailers can completly change the story of a movie

Line at the end cracked me up "now I know why mom said not to play with the white kids" !!! LOL!

It LOOKS great (agree though, bar scenes seemed too dark and too red)... but something kept me from really getting into it. It felt too long. If you say the movie itself is way funnier, I'd like to see that represented more in the trailer.

I understand what you mean about tightening up too much and ending up choppy, but I also agree with the others that say it needs tightening up. Finding the balance may not be easy, but I'm not sure you found it.

Overall though, it looks interesting... and I wish you the best luck at the festivals!

Great comments, thank you all... yeah, cutting a trailer is really tough. I didn't want to give much away in regards to humor and also didn't want to give the story line away, other than simply represent a slice of life film and trying to make it interesting enough for people to want to see it. Keep 'em guessing and interested is my angle. I hope I didn't leave too many holes.... I'm sure in months to come the trailer will change.
It really is amazing what a trailer does to a film. If the trailer is too funny, it will ruin the comedy bits when watching the feature... I just wanted to show a hint of comedy for flavor.... and a hint of drama as well.... I think representing a true dramady is really tough....

Thanks again for your comments.

Need new actors? Oh my god, you are right...!! I'll notify the production heads, the crew, staff, and post departments right away... we'll re cast, re shoot, re edit and re submit online...

Is Jonny Depp available? What was I thinking hiring unknown actors....? How will the future of Independents survive without mainstream actors???

All is loss......... I'm going back to my old job at Carl's Jr.

pimp...

i was going to post to save you the grief, but you responded...i was going to say how easy it is to post something negative. it's harder to post something creative or helpful because then the person posting has to actually stop and think. ah but you've made your point so i'll say this...

give no time to the negativity...

there are plenty of academy award winning actors who at one time were labeled "bad"
"E.R." was a show no one thought would last.
and as everyone knows this quote "don't quit your day job. this star wars is a b-movie."
