First feature film shot with HVX200

>>>There are a lot of people on this very list that have said that you could not produce a long form feature with the HVX.

Any medium can produce a feature lenght film. Dv, 8mm, a still camera, pen and pencil, MS Paint, dust on paper,, whatever. If you can do one frame, you can make a film. The word "feature" was a big mistake. Evryboyd knows how long a feature should be. Ask the Academy.

>>>Just because we don't know your name, we cannot see your face and you don't have to stand like a man in front of people and say what you are saying doesn't mean that in a polite society that you shouldn't show respect.... It seems that the internet and having fake names to hide behind makes people brave enough to spit on others with abandon.

This is dangerous ground you are walking on. Anonymity on the net is a right. You can't judge people for using their right. The board respects anonymity. Why shouldn't you? You are using your real name. So what? You represent a company here and a product. You are just doing your job and you have to use your real name. All the users of this boards that commented on the talent behind this effort had the right to do so. You can't attack them for not using their real name which you might not be able to read of spell properly btw. Everybody that posts work here knows he is going to be criticised by anonymous internet users. It's part of the deal. He is aware of it. You can judge someone for his anonymity if he is using it to protect himself in order to do something illegal. If not, he's using his right and you are in no position to attack him for doing that. He might have an opinion on filmmaking. You might want to start an eponymous dvx user board and enforce your rules by spitting on anonymous users there.

>>>It is too bad I don't know your real names so that if some day you come knocking and asking for some co-promotion so that the word of your endeavor goes farther faster, we can regale this time together.

I have to laught at that. Seriously. I doubt anyone would go this low, no matter how untallented and anonymous he might be.

Your defensive response sounds like you missed the point of her comment. She simply stated that decent common courtesy and politeness all too often goes out the window when people have that barrier of anonymity. And that is altogether true (people in cars come to mind). Just because you can and have every right to belittle someones efforts, doesn't mean you should. Especially in a forum that is meant to encourage the proliferation of video. This forum has been really headin south in my opinion.

Sometimes I just don't get it, what is it that causes this bitterness. This guy created a movie, a feature length movie using the HVX. There's nothing more noble than creating something, good or bad. I believe in the magic of filmmaking and I believe that all of us should spend more time doing than critisizing.

Panasonic decided to use this movie to endorse the fact that you can create movies with the HVX. Personally I find nothing wrong with that and it really is something that make my heart beat faster, because I know that things are possible. So two sides win. Panasonic for creative marketing and a resulting good sales and we the aspiring filmmakers for realizing that our dreams may actually come true.

Many artists in the past have endorsed the technology they were using. Like Dire Straits (in the Brothers in Arms Album '85) that were among the first to have their album recorded digitally and cut in CD in a time when everyone was bashing it.

Everybody chill.
From now on I suggest a new pilicy here. Everyone that starts ranting obnouciously (how in h*ll do you spell this?) and/or endlessly should get off their soapbox and go shoot something. That oughta help to get the 'constructive' vibe back.
So, Jarred? Barry? I vote for...
What do you say?
Me?
Ranting?

I guess I better go out and WORK then... :D

I'm not being defensive in any way since I did not even make any comments on the trailer or the quality of cinematogaphy or anything similar. My only comments were 1) the article read like marketing copy 2) it is not a feature lenght film.

Anonymity on the net is a big issue and I don't feel it is necessary to attack anonymous users. Especially if a product manager is doing it. They have the right to comment the posted material anonymously.

I have to add that I did not comment on the clip because I chose not to see the clip after reading the article.

how can this be a full length feature? it's a twenty page script!!!!

And one hundred minutes of good modern cinema. Or adding no action, no dialogues too. Sergio Leone said: "The best score is the silence on screen".

ironic that leone would say that considering he had arguably the greatest film composer of all scoring his work.

I watched the trailer and sorry to say this, but apart from the sharp and clear HD image, everything else looks very amateurish, from the cinematography(angle and focal length and some of the movement looks really awkward), the lighting's way too harsh in some of the shots and too studio-like in others, the sound was echoish too. ... and I'm not even a professional.

I just watched the trailer (without sound) and after I saw the stuff on the website I expected some professional, film-like footage.

But it looked very video-ish (60i?), the effects were ugly and I didn't liked the titles.
For someone's first try it is good, for a professional "feature film", it's pretty bad.

Important details to them and to the success/career of their product but I'm with Jan, is it relevant for this purpose?

The point is: this camera with appropriate fix lighting it produces good material. The other issues -- acting, angles, even cinematography option(s), script, editing, post treatment, VFX, etc etc etc., they belong to the subjective field. It doesn't matter to the HVX discussion, it's merely a question of art/technique form or not, acceptable to Cafe ala DVX or Film Discussion boards.
