that being said, it doesn't have IBIS. and the a7siii/fx3 probably has a 2-stop advantage in high ISO performance
I'm old enough to remember when people were speculating this camera would be $7,500
This price point is too good to walk past. So after much debate this afternoon I put my order in.
Anyone else?
There's talk of the AF being the lesser quality dpaf version 1 as in C70 standard rather than what folk have become accustomed to with the dpaf version 2 on recent stills cameras such as R5, R6
https://www.newsshooter.com/2022/01/19/canon-r5-c/When you are in Photo mode the AF system and performance are exactly the same as the R5 and you get Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus II. However, when you switch to Video mode you get Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus I. This essentially means you don’t get animal detect and animal Eye detect when shooting video as you do on the R5.
The R5 was also dual-native ISO camera. When shooting in standard (non-log) picture profiles, the base ISO is 100, with the second gain circuit kicking in at 400 ISO. This is why there is a bit more dynamic range at 400 ISO than say 200 ISO as shown on this chart:The dual native ISO is odd. That has never really been Canon’s MO. Their log modes have “native” iso and then maintains the gamma curve throughout the rest of the expanded ISO range. Is the R5C not going to work that way?
User replaceable hot-shoe I'm told![]()
It has a digital IS and its effectiveness remains to be seen. But, in general, R5c doesn't appear to be made for the hand-held shots.
Howevah, if someone has both R5 and R5c, then he can mix and match. Two 8K cameras for under $9,000.
Sony's A7RV can't be too far away.
Mixing and matching is like... "we can get smooth shots! if we're careful not to overheat... and we can record unlimitedly!! but it won't be smooth..." if either issue concerns you, you really want to have it all in one body IMO
nobody's waiting to see what the R1 can do?
R1 will be a R5 C (I guess that's how they spell it which is annoying) and R3 combined...and the mother of all ships.
does the difference mean more than just a lack of animal eye AF? that was the impression I got. per newsshooter:

I’m likely to pass, but i am still tempted by 8K CRL internal.
I have a running list of possible cameras i might go for this year:
if the mirrorless crowd:
- Sony A1,A7s3, Fx3
- Panasonic S1H or succesor
- Nikon Z9 if they get a new Nlog with a bit more DR squeezed out
- Red Komodo, sort of don’t think i will, too many good options from other brands now. Komodo was pretty bad in low light, compare to anything the mirrorless world offers.
- Canon R3, C70, R5C (and possibly R1 or C90 etc)
- Fujifilm GFX medium format with good video or and XT5 if they release this year
Considering these are just in the mirrorless and sub $10K genre, we have a lot of nice options to start
Did you forget this was Canon?
All of this Canon talk has me thinking of Puredrifting. I haven't seen him post in a while -- hope he's OK.
