Panasonic BS1H announce new camera.

Another recycled camera - I think we're now up to 14 from everyone from 2020-2021 - but very happy Panasonic is trying and making cameras.

400 fps, and built in ND ... great!

Oh no just another camera with exactly the same specs as all the others

I bet it is great. but my gh4 is pretty great - no client could tell the difference or pay for it.

I may be missing something here with the Lumix cube-style camera releases and pricing. So this is essentially an S1H but without the EVF, screen at the back, and the photography functions (correct me on losing the photography functions if I am wrong), but they are selling it at the exact same price as the S1H? I'll eventually read through the Newsshooter article, but does the B1SH add anything that the S1H doesn't already have?

POE?

(power down the ethernet cable)

SDI?

also wires are not 'out the side' which snags on everything

I mean these cameras are doubltless good for a multicam zoom meeting.. if you are kitting up a studio now it'd be on the radar .. maybe

Ive quoted for a zoom meeting and the presenter will be walking around with a camera showing his/her new product..while I cut to some other locked off angles with a BMswitcher. and we are going to need the best AF for that walkabout shot.

Its not clear the best option as the r6 has puny hdmi sh_itty lead but the af is good and the camera small

Of course if I were setting up a multicam broadcast setup Id want remote control of the ND so I could work outside . something available on my c200 and other canons - like the xf605 that probably has zoom over ethernet as well as nd.

The films on news hooter are awful 'dop's shooting 'cinematic' - you need a nerd demoing a zoom meeting with a box and it all works.

The only comment on news hooter is "Any idea if it can be controlled via a broadcast racks/RCP?"

Not that you or I would necessarily care or need it, but there are some important differences for the person that needs them: SDI, PoE, much larger battery, fixed sensor. For me the latter is negative as I’m a big fan of Panasonic ibis, but there are situations where ibis can cause issues, even if turned off.

I don’t mind the price, I just wish it ticked the boxes I need. As is, it’s neither here nor there. Who needs an L mount full frame camera and also PoE? Those seem like very divergent customer bases. It’s a weird sensor format for a remote cam, and without ibis and internal raw, it doesn’t really compete with a Z cam F6 nor Panasonic’s own S1H if you are looking for a compact cinema camera.

Not at all a bad camera. S1H image is great and the added connectivity and rigging options are nice, but this is VERY much incrementalism from a release standpoint.

sdi and timecode are good. now all they need is ND

PS "unbox your creativity" is such a shitty slogan. what a lame concept around the box format. but I don't like to be taken in by marketing so I suppose I shouldn't be turned off by it either

Ah, ok. Yeah, I can give them points for SDI. Anything that moves to more secure connections is always appreciated.

Unchain your creativity. Let it out of the prison of someone else's visions. Send it into the galaxy far away. The place where only USS Enterprise can roam freely. At least, while the Millennium Falcon is under repair in Buck Rodgers' garage.

Great. Now if it wasn't plagued by the L mount it would be awesome.

Good lens mount and lenses but very limited in lens options and super expensive. Adapting electronic EF lenses is horrible for video and not really an option. This is why I went with a Canon R6 over a Panasonic S5.

Just read the SDI is only 3G. The SDI connection is one of the justifications of a box camera and it can not do any of the higher resolutions or RAW? Does not make any sense to me. Commenter people on DPReview are trying to justify this as being used "on set" or for broadcasters. Just seems in a bit of no man's land to me. If you are going to have to use the HDMI anyway, the real camera version seems more attractive.

Just like the BGH1 I think the target is fixed multicam setups with RJ45 Gigabit LAN port connections for everything. A clamp and one wire does it all. They may have saved even more money by leaving all the other connections and controls off !!

Additionally the Lumix line of cameras have had more than average delay from their HDMI ports, I wonder if/when this would be fixed. Not sure what Panasonic are doing different from the other camera manufacturers that cause them to have more lag than others.

On my GH5 and GH5S the delay is 6 frames as measured by my Ninja V sync units. I guess it is where they take the feed for the HDMI circuits.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I love this camera and the idea behind it. This should have been what the S1H launched as. If they could have added NDs, I think it would have sold amazingly well.

with that said, bummer to see no advancements over the S1H, like 120fps in 4K, mini XLRs on body, ProRes or internal raw, etc.

But this will make an awesome gimbal camera or car rig camera or many other situations that the box format makes easier.

To me, this one makes gimbal use more difficult with no LCD and no AF...

Most of the new gimbals out there can easily handle all mirrorless' besides the chunkier Canons, which may require a more dedicated setup for the size.
