Vocal rider waves drag and drop?

Hello,

Does anybody use Waves vocal rider? I heard its a great plugin for automatic your levels in davinci resolve. Is it just drag and drop. Or does one need to hit the read, write button on the bottom? Or how does you apply/start it correctly?

Thanks!

I have used VR. It ain't perfect by any means. I prefer creating a manual envelope for music vocals and VOs. Another semi-automated plug-in is JB's 'Broadcast ' leveler plug-in which has an almost inaudible AGC, multiband comp, in/out limiters and M/S parameters. It may be too complex to set-up for non-audio folks though.

If it's primarily dialogue that you need to get nicely levelled with added dynamics and presence check out the following. It does mean you have to export your finished dialogue track out as a .WAV file but what is does for your audio will save you hours of mucking around. Once processed just bring the audio file back into Resolve or any other NLE and mute your original dialogue audio track and replace it with your new Levelator track and make your final level adjustments and away you go. I've used it on many a TV show production and never had a complaint. In fact the opposite as to how good the dialogue sounded. To top it off it's FREE!

"So what is The Levelator®? It's software that runs on Windows, OS X (universal binary), or Linux (Ubuntu) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better.

Have you ever recorded an interview in which you and your guest ended up at different volumes? How about a panel discussion where some people were close to microphones and others were not? These are the problems the post-production engineers of Team ITC here at The Conversations Network solve every day, and it used to take them hours of painstaking work with expensive and complex tools like SoundTrack Pro, Audacity, Sound Forge or Audition to solve them. Now it takes mere seconds. Seriously. The Levelator® is unlike any other audio tool you've ever seen, heard or used. It's magic. And it's free."

Wow thanks Chris that Levelator is great for someone with limited post production audio skills like myself, so simple and sounds much better than when I start fiddling, almost feels like cheating

Ah yes! Sometimes it is good to feel like a cheat. But it was cheat developed by professional sound engineers. That's okay in my book:) A cheat that can save you hours. I've often used it in conjunction with BIAS SoundSoap Pro 2 and very quickly levelled and noise reduced one-hour audio tracks from live performance recordings in a matter of minutes not drawn out hours. Good luck with Levelator.
