"Blackmagic Design today announced a new lower price for the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K of US$5,995. This price reduction has been made possible by efficiencies in manufacturing combined with an improved supply of 12K sensors. However with the new rendering engine in DaVinci Resolve 17.3, showing speed improvements up to 3x when working in 4K and 8K resolutions, the new lower price will make high resolution workflows more accessible. This is an exciting innovation because it transforms high resolution workflows and makes them much lower cost. With this new low price for Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, a much wider range of customers will have access to feature film production.

Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K is available immediately from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide for US$5,995."

It's a good example of how another country controls their own technology.

No corporate shenanigans; at least ones that do not frequently affect the consumers.

Yes, BM has always been square with their customers. They've had lengthy delays with some camera production (BMP 4K) but that was due to their small workforce/production capacities...

There were different reasons over the years, but I think the longest wait was about 1.5 years for UM 4.6K...people on BMCuser were going nuts.

I guess that's how it is pretty much right now with the Komodo and to some extent the FX6.

No one here probably remembers this, but they once even planned a product like below (it never went anywhere)...an URSA recorder/monitor to be used with DSLRs.

lol.

LOL I forgot about that one.

"This price reduction has been made possible by efficiencies in manufacturing combined with an improved supply of 12K sensors." Surely this is the press release translation of they haven't been selling well?

"This price reduction has been made possible because no one uses a PL mount."

lol. (They didn't say that.)

Come on, BMD, if you're reading...that was just silly. It's 2022 and PL is for the 1% with house money.

What would be best for this camera - EF or RF mount? I think the inverse ie shipping with EF but PL available would've been better.

It's a RF and E-mount world moving forward because ARRI is Apple and the rest rely on the Japanese and that's all there is because it won't be L-mount while EF continues to be discontinued more and more every month.

Problem was they want some of that 1% Hollywood market share but that will just never happen because ARRI is too powerful.

Do you think the 12k G2 will be RF mount?

it does sound like they swung for the fences and missed. their whole pitch was that high-end productions would adopt the camera

wouldn't that make the most sense? easy to go PL or almost any mount besides other modern mirrorless mounts. easy to get electronic communication with EF lenses. speedboosterable with Canon's own accessory.

give it a nice positive lock, and people could probably use a high quality PL adapter without any fuss or play, right?

That's what I would like, especially for a 12K camera with Canon's glass expertise, but I'm wondering if RED has any contract with Canon right now. Not saying they do or anything of the matter was discussed (I wouldn't know), but that's what you would do if you could. Give them 2-4 exclusive years with the Komodo.

The competition wasn't as serious a few years ago when everyone was just throwing EF mounts on their cameras, but times are changing real fast.

And I don't think Sony will license their mount to anyone (I wouldn't).

Why? They could probably make great cine lenses for a great price and find a market. I just think it would be crazy to use a new proprietary mount

Canon won't license fully functioning RF mounts to anyone because that's how Canon makes its living. In which case, BMD might as well stick with either the PL or "whatever you want" mount in their "pro" sector models.

As to the price reduction, I have a hunch that BMD has a pretty good idea what Canon is going to show off at the NAB. The rumors have been circulating - and recirculating and recirculating - about several 8K cameras for quite a while. BMD might as well move some inventory before October.

Sony could spring a surprise or two also.
