HPX-170 Shooting times & batteries

Hi All

Well I bit the bullet and purchased the 170. Still waiting for it to arrive.

However I do have some preliminary questions.

1) Shooting 720p with either a 32gb or 64gb P2, how much recording time would I get?

2) I need to be able to power the camera 7 hours or more. I'm sure the battery that comes with the camera is low power. Does Panasonic have higher power btteries? Like on my VX2000 (selling right now on eBay) I used a 960 Sony battery and got 9 hours.

3) Panasonic batteries or Anton Bauer? I see AB has batteries for this camera. Looking at their ElipZ 10K I'm understanding I could run the 170 for about 7 hours? they also have a gold mount but only accepts the Hytron 50 (3 hours?) or the Dionic (6 hours?).

Thanks for any info.

32 GB card at 720/24pN will provide about 88 minutes of video.

Non native recording over 60 is considerably less, but it varies.

There are several third party batteries available at dvxuser that last longer than Panasonic's and they are reasonably powered.

Hi David

I wouldn't be shooting @ 24N. proba ly either 30 or 60. IN fact being new to HD and especially Panasonic, I'm not sure what the N means yet although I've read about it some. Yes, I know Native.

but what is 702-30p/60i (N) mean? I know the 30/60 is FPS and I believe usually refered to as 30p or 60i (interlaced or progressive?) This is a whole new lerning experience for me.

You mean there's batteries available here or just articles on them? Where do I find them?

Thanks
Allen

32=85mins, 64=170mins in 720p 24pn or 30pn mode - native mode simply means the camera doesn't duplicate frames to get it up to the 60fps scan rate, wastes less space, same result.

three panasonic batteries will be more than enough

3) Panasonic batteries or Anton Bauer? Allen
Panasonic all the way

Hi pkendall

Thanks much for your answers. I thought the N meant more of a film look which we don't want for the technical stuff. It's for computer playback only. So maybe I was under a misconception?

3 Panasonic batteries? I'd have to change batteries. Not good assuming with the Anton Bauer Hytron 140 bricks I use now on my Sony DSR-250 gives me about 10 hours run time off 1 battery.

However I have the power situation for the monitor and my nNovia digital recorder solved. So they won't need to be powered by the camera like I do now with the 250.

Sorry I've just been tied up with 2 video projects going on at one time.

Sure whish my camera would arrive. Been backordered for alomost 2 weeks now! ugh! I also see that that battery in the link that StevenS gave me is out of stock as well! I'm batting %1000. ;-)

Thanks again
Allen
