New Image Format (and I think I'm banned too)

Hello guys, I've been tinkering and come up with an 'alternative' image format, at least I think I have, maybe some ones already done this don't know for sure:

Anyhoo, I call it the Tabel Pixel Format (.TPF) because its basically a HTML page with an image drawn using each cell of a HTML table!

see my blog for more details:

Oh also, whilst trying to upload the very file example I created, DVXuser somehow banned me, this is my alter ego Anhar v2 :D

patiently waiting to be unbanned.

Just checked, you're not banned, but somehow the system bumped you to a non usergroup. Perhaps it was that file you tried to upload. Will sort out with Jason.

Ok, let me be the first to say I like you Anhar, I like your 3D work, but I have no idea what in the nine hells you are talking about.

I think it has something to do with reversing the polarity of the neutron flow.

Most complex technical things seem to revolve around that.

Excellent I'm back!

Issac thanks! Jason has sorted it,

Matt, oh man lol , believe me when I say the more I learn new stuff the more I realise just how little I really know..

Max man you always crack me up :D

Tony Lovasco, Consider it already done, I've cleaned up my messy code and its now available for download (along with two sample TPF images) on my blog :

or here directly:

on a technical note, that code could easly be modified to make Image free gardients, where each line of pixel is literally a single DIV element, then you could just select the start color and end color, plus you would not incure any "pixel" cost horizontally since you can just repeat the div across.

Thanks guys!

I bet youre not the first to think of it but its a great idea and you coded it, thats great!
lets see if you can tweak the code so it gives comparatively good results.

But most importantly: Does it carry alpha channels?

In theory, yes the alpha channel could be coded as either HTML comments (i.e. ignored) by the browser or encoded within the cell content and have its color set to the same as the cell background.

As for the purpose of this method, I'll be honest I have no idea!

but some specalative purposes:

(1) Small company logo's that would not need to be "linked" to any external references or sources, hence no chance of broken links on images.

(2) Images that can never be "turned" off because, well they are not images!

(3) Truely scaleable images, (tables expand and contract) to fit the size of the browser

(4) Embed Huge amount of meta data great for SEO's

(5) Image less gradients!

(6) Highly compressable and theorectically lossless

Downsides:

Complete abuse of HTML, it was never designed for this.

Places massive load on the browser and client's PC, you will need a fast computer to render these 'images'

They take up more space when uncompressed :(however) when compressed (I got upto 93% compression) so unless these are stored in a compressed form and then decompressed on demand then this would be a negative point.

for the love of God, don't let this technology fall into the hands of terry lasater. once that happens there will be no stopping him with his "caption this picture" threads. we're all doomed!
