Would you hang out a 14 story building for $300?

If so, this ridiculous Craigslist Ad is for you!

Ran this ad earlier for $100/day. We've now incresaed it to $300!

We need a "brave" camera operator for this Sunday. We are doing a short film and we need a shot from outside a window of a tall building (14 stories up). It's not as bad as it seems. We have an OSHA approved harness that we'll attach a rope to and lower you down from a window of the floor above. You will use a small hand held. The shot should take no more than 30 minutes (actual hang time). The camera operator we have now doesn't want to do it. You'll share the camera operator credit just for helping with this one shot. Pay is $300 (cash). The whole thing should not take longer than 2 hours.

An experienced camera operator is preferred - but will consider anyone with any kind of film experience.

Thank you.

I'd do it.

I've got a bunch of climbing gear and I've been in the top of the tallest trees MO has to offer... I think 70' is enough to kill you... really anything past 40' and it's pretty certain... so who cares how high it is, once it's high enough.

It's already been flagged for removal...What else would you do for 300 dollars? I would--

-Lick a dirty sidewalk
-Eat goat balls
-Kiss a random stranger

If it were 'our' project, I bet we'd all be surprised what we would do for free, much less for someone else's project.

Too bad. Good thing I responded before it was flagged. Let's see if they contact me. Ki-Ki, you bet. I'll have a camera in my vest, and I will direct the top team to snap a pic or two also.

Wow. Every kid in film school should read this thread for a real education into what you have to do to succeed in Hollywood. You know if they are advertising this on Cragslist that they undoubtedly know what they are doing, will have a proper stunt coordinator and safety gear. Doesn't most stuntwork and dangerous camera setup go through Craigslist?

I have parachuted, have some good time in rock climbing and rappelling and the hang sounds like the least of it, it is the safety record and trust I would put into someone who advertises a job like this on Craigslist that would be scary.

Not in a million years would I put my life into someone's hands who works this way.

Yeesh.

Dan

It was nice knowing you Doc Bernard... this is apparently written by the camera operator who would not do the stunt.

Warning! The highrise Camera Op job is bogus! (Amateurville)

Be warned! The ad below looking for a camera operator for today is a load of crap!

About a week ago I responded to an ad on craigslist for a camera operator. They said I would have to work 14 floors up on the outside of a building. They made it appear as if this was a professional job and that there would be ample safety equipment. Well, nothing could be farther from the truth. These guys are complete amateurs. The "professional safety harness" that they said they had was a leather roofing belt with a large ring through the back. They tied a yellow nylon rope through the ring and wanted to lower me out the 15th floor window with these two idiots holding the rope. And when I say "tied" I mean tied - they tied a boyscout knot on the ring. And if that wasn't enough, they placed old mattresses in the parking lot below. As if that's going to do anything if I were to fall 15 floors. I'd go right through that stuff. When I said I wouldn't do it they started acting like I was ruining the shot and that I'd be responsible for all the money they lost if I didn't climb out the window. It was total BS! Do not work for these people! Warn all of your friends! I'm telling you it isn't safe.

And they have in their new ad that I "chickened out." Right! Becasue I'm smart enough not to let two idiots lower me out a 15 story window - that makes me a chicken! If they're so professional why are they shooting on an old canon that looks like it came from Circuit City? I'm serius. It was one of those consumer cameras that you use to film birthday parties and stuff. I really hope no one is stufpid enoug hto work for these guys. It's not worth the $300.

LOL, I figured that was going to be the case. I was going to bring my own gear and rope. But, I never got the call.
