Distributing my film online

I have decided to make my movie available online, and I am finalizing the distribution process.

I have been studying the Digital Rights Management (DRM) procedure. Microsft Media Encoder has the features to encrypt file and offer licence keys to log download secure films.

I wanted to know whether somebody has distributed their films online, as I feel that its a very easy and secure way to make your films available for the largest possible market.

Any one?

Lots of people don't like DRM because it really limits what you can do with it, even though you paid for it. Like if they wanted to burn it to a DVD later, it might not let them, etc. I think what people are having more success with is just selling DVDs through a website. Some people have sold lots of copies that way. The guys that did the short Broken, their movie looked great, and had like 2 hours of behind the scenes on there and they sold LOTS of dvds through their website.

ya I do understand the implication of DRM, but having a DVD release will have some costs associated with it. Online distribution will be relatively cheap for me as my web host is kind enough to allow me to host it.

I was also looking at iTunes as an option. are there any similar options available.... thanks

Oh right, I remember you posted that in a clips forum, I really liked that trailer.

I don't know maybe you'll have luck somewhere with online distribution

Online distribution by shop software

Online distribution by shop software

This might be the cheapest option

http://www.oscommerce.com/

It is a freeware online shop, works pretty well and has support for paid downloads. I shouldn't bother for DRM. If you wan't your film to be seen by a lot of people you want those people to share it with friends. You could sell a divx avi file and/or a DVD-image on the shop. If sales go well you can allways add real DVD's and promotional stuff in the shop as well. For the pressing of DVD's you should count on about $ 1000 minimum. You could also burn the DVD's on your computer and make your own inlets for the case.

We are working hard to build HungryFlix.com into a great distribution channel for independent filmmakers and video producers.

Right now we distribute iPod-ready MPEG4 files with no DRM. We have a max file size of 500mb.

As a content provider, you set the price for your downloads. Typical prices are $1.99-$0.99 for shorts, $4.99 and up for longer shorts and features. You will earn 60% of the profits from your downloads (after PayPal fees).

We'd love to have your content on the site. Check us out at http://www.hungryflix.com
