just got manhatten 8.9" LCD

What about using one of these as an alternative? It's got a lot of the same features (e.g. 1:1 and multiple inputs) but it's lighter, has vertical & horizontal flip options, and it's a touch screen too. Why not get an HDMI to DVI cable and save the $200?

Junk. Why would I want to waste my time with getting an adapter cable, a lower resolution screen (by 33%), a smaller screen (by almost 2 inches) and a lack of connections (no component, HDMI, S-Video). Save $200? You get $400 less quality and usefulness. Pony up the $200 and do yourself a favor with fewer headaches.

Nickel and dime-ing never works. This is the first time I've seen a monitor (Manhattan LCD) with these specs at this price point. The competition has monitors hundreds of dollars more for the same specs you see above (800x480), and they are not production friendly.

I think Kholi tried one of these out one time and found it was junk. If you must go budget go liliput. But the thing is the vga to component adapter you need, needs separate power, which means more batteries.

The manhattan lcd is less effort and just makes more sense.

Whats up with this Ikan 5" ?

http://store.zacuto.com/Ikan-V5600-HD-LCD-Monitor.html

Never heard of an HD one this size. its 1024x600 with HDMI and component. Weighs less than a pound. No mention of the kind of battery options. Obviously, smaller than the MLCD though for some who feel 8.9 is too big this might be of interest. Anyone used this? Anyone have experience with both the ikan and the mlcd?

We had the larger Ikan and the build quality was crap. I made the cost of the monitor back within a week just with charging a bit extra on each day that I came out. It's real easy to get 75-125 a day for a monitor package.. and at this price it's a no brainers. Shoot, even if you get 30 bucks for it, you'll pay it off in no time.

Here's ikan's site for it:

I think 5.6 is the perfect size, I don't like using 7" and up for shooting handheld, too heavy.

Here it is at b&h: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/604700-REG/Ikan_V5600_5_6_HD_LCD_MONITOR.html

The unfortunate thing is being an ikan I'm sure the colour representation and the build quality are crap, but whatever, it's got hdmi and is small and light.

I was gonna buy a manhattanlcd, but I may buy this.

Canon a1 and Manhattan LCD compatibility

Canon a1 and Manhattan LCD compatibility

I just received a HD089B model Manhattan LCD. When I hook it up to my Canon XHA1 via the Canon component cable I get an image with a pronounced purplish cast. This seems to be something beyond what the menu color adjustments can handle. Just as a quick comparison I hooked up a laptop via HDMI to the monitor and the colors seem good. Since there seems to be an A1 user or two with this monitor I just thought I would post in case anyone else has encountered a badly off color image. Meanwhile I'll keep fiddling.....

When mounting upside down make sure that you have enough clearance if you need to use the component inputs.. they are put in a really bad spot and has to be rigged to work. I think that the controls and inputs would be best served on the side... for cabeling and to facilitate upside down mounting.. but if I had the right extension arm or piece.. maybe not a big deal.

On the 150, the HDMI is in a good spot.. just not the component that I had to use on the 200a.

Bill, and to other people having this issue. Here is a fix.

You must have the monitor connected to the camera and running with the wrong colors.

Danger, you can really screw up your monitor if you mess with these settings. (LVDS Panel Selection), messing with colors is ok.

With the remote:

Hit "Source" and then type with the keypad "911", a hide menu will come up.

Scroll down to "Auto ADC Cal" and hit left, this will recalibrate the monitor.

If that does not work, try the "Reset ADC Cal", and then "Auto ADC Cal"

Eventually will place an order for a monitor, but have been looking into the various mounting options. Seen NextWaveG's setup with the 10.9" model and it's been confirmed that he's using some kind of Noga arm. They seem to have a myriad of options:

http://www.filmtools.com/noga.html

I've ordered a few car mounts from FilmTools and was wondering what opinions anyone has on the various Noga mounts. NextWaveG has his mounted to his A1's cold shoe, but I was looking into perhaps getting a mount that threads into the camera handle's 1/4" hole. I would guess it would be a little more durable as opposed to sitting on the cold shoe, but I'm just speculating. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks

Edit: Hey DM_Rider, are you mounting the Noga arm to the side of your riser plate?

Did this and it seemed to do the job, although I had to to the auto/reset cycle several times. White is now white instead of lavender. I will calibrate it the rest of the way with regular menus when I have the time.

What great service! And on a weekend too!

- anyone can suggest a tekkeon mounting solution? something that grips it rock solid?
perhaps some kind of mount utilizing the additional screw holes on the monitor would be best?

- anyone knows of an adaptor/power converter to use vmount batteries with it? redrock micro has a D-tap converter , but it gives out only 9V?

thx

We recommend industrial grade velcro, you can velcro the battery to the back of the monitor. We supply the velcro when you buy a monitor with a battery.

They did that with me and it works really well. I bought another piece just to be sure and keep it wrapped all the way around. I simply love this monitor and battery combo. I don't know exactly how long it will power it as it's never run out on me yet. I think it ran for 4 hours last time I was out.. ..

Anyone know the exact running time for fully charge Tekkeon and Manhattan LCD.
