Hey guys,

My other film fell through, but I did manage to shoot a film for LossFest
over Christmas break. I'm currently uploading the film, and I realized I
didn't have a topic for this film yet.

Hey thanks for the comment! I'm glad you liked it.

I'm at school right now, but I can't wait to check out all of the films.

Poster added.

Haha! Just saw it. That was "cute"... in a manly way of course >< Good job

Just... I'm sure you know this... there was a spec or dirt on the lense... REGARDLESS, it didn't really detract from the story. It was still fun

Yeah, that spec of dust is a pain... I think I've finally got it off the lens. I wish is wasn't there, but, oh well.

Real nice job ! It made the film much better for me ! Amazing how great audio kicks the whole presentation up a notch !

Simple concept done with style, I loved it! Personally one of the best I have seen so far!

Really nice work here, Alex. I enjoyed how the story guided the viewer one way with the loss of something, but when he found it, we were jolted the other way and found out he lost his voice. That was a very nice plot technique. It certainly gave you and your cast a lot of opportunity for bits of humorous debasement on the part of the lead. I really cracked up when I saw him making the hot salt water gargle. I knew it was coming, but I still erupted into laughter when it burnt his tongue.

Your lead was very charismatic and did a fine job carrying the film; many great moments from him. The supporting cast was also pretty solid (and I just realized that the lead was you...so bravo, sir!)

Now, I did find a few inconsistencies within the sound and picture. Toward the end, a cut from the girl's arrival to the reaction shot went from a warm magic hour shot to a VERY warm shot. The rest of the film is graded similarly, so it works fairly well, but it was a little distracting. You might have been able to just squeeze it in and subtly change the warmth through key frames. And with regards to sound, I just a couple of times heard some extra signal noise poking in to say "hello," but it was far from distracting for me. It certainly wasn't infrequent, but there was a lot going on in each sequence that it helped to mask the problem. Although, we all as filmmakers must remember that masking it doesn't make it go away. I always say that sound, to quote other filmmakers before me, is about 70% of a film. Without good sound, it can be difficult. Heck, even I ran into a bunch of sound problems (although I only had a sound guy for one night). Like I said, it's not very distracting, but something to work on in the future.

Overall, very strong film. Great work!

One last note: The music was very effective. It complimented the film well and elevated the comedic manner in which everything was presenting by opposing it was intense progressions.

First, I absolutely love your animated logo for "Simple Science Productions". It was one of the best I've ever seen. Did you do that yourself?

I thought this story was really sweet. The actors were great, I was sympathetic with the lead, the friend made me laugh, and the girl was charming. The ending was perfect.

Lastly, great use of music.

Very well done.

Lawsuit_Boy, thanks for the feedback! I completely agree about that color shift at the end, I'm going to try to fix the grading when I release it on my site. And I definitely see what you mean about the sound. Great points. Thank you!

Chris, I'm glad you like the simple science logo. My cousin designed the actual logo that appears at the end, and I did the animation of the chart and flying the logo in using 3D cameras in After Effects.

Thanks again for the comments guys, keep em coming!

I can't wait to watch more of these films this weekend.

"You're **** out of luck dude" ... Simple and effective. A great comedy, I really enjoyed it. Some color issues but everything else worked well so no major complaints here.

Good job, cute story, good acting. Congrats on a job well done!

That said...clean you lens...work on the audio mix, there was some funky stuff going on in it.... and work on the grading a bit more.

All in all...a very enjoyable watch! I especially liked the opening sequence. Rock on!

Alex!

This one was quite funny. I thought that the lead pulled off the role admirably. Good writing as well. Some very nice cinematography too!

I was pretty sure where it was going but I enjoyed the ride. I thought the music was good but maybe slightly overused.

All in all this was a good entry for the Fest.

PS- Dust sucks! I feel your pain.

A clean cut comedy... simple but effective. Love the music. Is the redness intentional when she first said hello? but it fits perfectly for the moment, at least imo, as if he was shy and unexpected :-) Over all, I like it!

best scene was with the sticky notes, it had a good pace and was cut nicely. overall good job!

Very nice film. Liked your story, especially like the 'Looks like you're **** out of luck, buddy' line. Great timing and delivery on that!

Is he singing in the shower with a guitar? BW had some difficulty to see all the detail clearly.

Really enjoyable.
