Brevis or Letus? - HMC150, HPX170 compatable?

Hi guys,

I'm planning on getting an HMC150 this week, and am seriously considering using a 35mm adapter.

Does anyone have experience with either the Letus Extreme or Brevis adapter with the HMC150?

Also, with these adapters both work with the HMC150 and the HPX170? I'm shooting with a friend who is going to be using the HPX170 as a secondary camera from time to time.

Thanks

Yeah, I'm curious why you left out the SGBlade and the RedRock M2 Encore. I've seen some great stuff out of both of those adapters.

Also, search Vimeo. There is some stuff floating around from both these adapters and cameras.

I looked around at the letus extreme, red rock, brevis and sgblade. In the end I bought a blade it seemed to offer the best performance vs price. Of course, it's still being built so I have to wait a few weeks to see if my calculus is wrong. At just under 2k for the adapter with flip, rails, follow focus and some extras; I think that represented the best deal. I can't wait to see how it performs with the HMC150.

Last week I let a fellow DVXuser try out my HMC150 with his DIY adapter and was really impressed how it looked in the poor lighting conditions.

I think the HMCs lowlight performance should make it a great cam for a 35mm adapter.

I use the letus flip enhanced on mine and absolutely love it, its like incredible HD footage but with a sick a$$ depth of field! its up to you, but i can provide some footage if you want.

im shooting this weekend, i can get some clips and ill post them up here. if you want, i can post a few small screen grabs???

Hi everybody !:)

I am new in this forum and I'm french so sorry for my english...
I'm shooting with a JVC HD200 and I am a little bit disappointed with the images it delivers (don't like the codec, noisy images, bad in low lights, etc.) Actually I became very interested in the HMC 151. The images seems very clean with good low lights possibilities, the sdhc cards wich are great and economics (much more than P2 cards) and the 28mm witch is really great for what I shoot. I am gonna test it before buying it but if I do so I would love to use it with a brevis adapter or SGblade. I would be interested in seeing some photos of how the camera looks without the flip module and how are the images with such adapter. I am looking for an adapter not to heavy and easy and quick to install and I wonder if it's possible not to use it with rails...
If you could post some grabs of the rig it would be nice...
Thanks :)

Looks great nfc565 .Did you shoot this during the day ?

I chose the RR M2 because I thought it looked the most professional mounted on the camera, and second because the way that Brian and the rest of the gang at RedRock Micro decided to move forward with their latest model by not shutting out previous owners. They're also one of the oldest companies out there who have been manufacturing 35mm adapters for video. With that comes great customer service and a long list of clientel who have been working with their product since the beginning and have been producing some amazing looking footage.

The current model, the Encore, can be upgraded to from the prior model, the M2, for just $545. I bought an M2 for under $1000 with everything I needed to get started, including their new Cinescreen II which supposedly has only a 1/2 stop of light loss and better resolution than their previous screen. When I want to upgrade to the Encore, I can.

Also, you need to consider how often you will be using the adapter. I use my adapter on some high end commercial work, but that's about it. I don't use it for clients who obviously aren't willing to pay for it.

Remember, shooting with a 35mm adapter takes extra work, and planning, especially with lens selection. You are going to want to buy, or rent, the best quality glass you can get when using an adapter, to maximize edge to edge sharpness and detail, and minimize vignetting and chromatic aberration. There's also a learning curve involved, which will take time until you get comfortable and start producing good results.

Nice summation and I do like that about the RR people. Are most people using Nikon glass? I like some of those zeiss lenses but they are pricey... and getting a PL lens would be a rental for sure

I do have a couple of Nikons, but they are a Series E lens, so really not the highest quality glass. When I shoot for a higher-end client I rent a set of 6 Nikkor primes from my local rental shop for $150 a day. Zeiss is nice, but pricey! Depending on how often you use the adapter, renting might be your best bet.

Thanks. I will check into it. I can rent a lot of stuff here. So you are in Maine? I grew up in NH.

cheers
