AVOID user purplebandalero / Michael Owens

This isn't necessarily a Civil manner, and not every sheriff or city police takes the view you state.

We had a similar transaction where we dealt with the Houston city police long distance and the perpetrator was eventually caught and imprisoned. After five years he made restitution.

I also think that some feedback would help.

Nothing is perfect. But something is better than nothing.

Well, I apologize if my suggestion is in correct. Just seems to me, or at least in my country when someone says they are selling you X and you pay them and they take off with your money and you get nothing and can't find them. They are crooks. I am not an American, nor a lawyer but stealing a persons money is breaking the law in my country and I would venture to say it is in the U.S.A. too. Otherwise why were all the guys wearing white hats and badges chasing the guys wearing black hats after they came out of the bank? To slap a subpoena on them from Dooee Cheatum and Howe?

With the volume of gear that is bought/sold on this board ... would I be nuts to suggest that DVXuser should consider some form of service (like escrow.com) but charge less than they do? It would really boost the confidence of the users and even contribute to the funding of the board.

My2cents

No, no zoot suited, saddle oxford wearing, violin case carrying hood in a fedora required for solving the matter.

As for a law enforcement type getting interested in a case of $450 larceny- likelihood of obtaining 'action' is slim to none.
Grand theft, an entirely different matter- of course.

WHY WOULDN'T I POST THE INFO HERE?
As if to say, there might be something wrong with me, or it (right?)

I thought my message was already too long = for one.
It might be inappropriate here, in this thread- and the injured party who started this thread might find a 'hi-jack' of it rude.= for two.
Just didn't think the other .01% of chumps who get stung would be reading it = for three.

I don't hear a clamoring of keys asking for it either.
So, that kinda sets the tone. Why bother?

I ain't even heard from the original complainant- therefore, by reduction and deducing, nobody wants to know, not even him.

EOS.

would I be nuts to suggest that DVXuser should consider some form of service
i wouldnt say "nuts" but its kind of unrealistic. thats not the business dvxuser is in. and considering the number of good transactions vs bad, i dont think the end would justify the expense... but i may be wrong.

and NoNoob, id personally would LOVE to hear your formula - thats why i asked.

Maybe DVXuser should institute a real name policy. A lot of other forums are now doing this, would that be a problem here? Might cut down on the scam factor having to use a real name. But then how is that verified?

How about a small fee paid to this site (couple of pounds/bucks) via PayPal from an account *with a verified postal address* to get your name on a verified buyers/sellers list.

That way, people can check the list and choose to buy from or sell to only people on that list. The small fee could go towards this site and I certainly wouldn't have a problem paying. Not foolproof I suppose but it has to be a step in the right direction.

Just an idea...

I think that DVXuser should not get involved.
I think it would open a can of worms they do not need or want.
Ebay gets so much email and bad press from scams and people abusing it. Why would dvxuser want to get involved with that. That would change it into a different kind of forum than it is now.

We all seem to report good and bad transactions.
If someone sucks then talk about it.
Be smart about your transactions and you will usually do well.
If anything is fishy or someone has bad press here and has not responded with a valid reason for bad behaviour, do not buy from them.

You're probably right - just throwing ideas around. I wasn't meaning DVX would be in any way responsible if anything went wrong, of course - just a list showing that people had verified their address.

Edit: flaws in an idea I wrote here were pointed out elsewhere so I have removed it...

Hi, I didn't read this thread, but 4 pages..wow. But I did not have a great experience with purplebandalero and I am going to add my 2 cents now. It's been a long, long time and I've never said anything about him (even when I saw this thread a while back) because I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but now as someone bumped up this thread, I think it's more than fitting to add my experience with Purplebandalero / Michael Owens.

I sent money for Purplebandalero for a bunch of tutorial DVDs that he advertised was for sale here in the Marketplace Forums. I never received the tutorial DVDs. I contacted him several times through email and DVXuser forums and he replied saying he'll issue a refund and so I waited but it never came. I contacted him several times and he appologized and said he was on a shoot in Tazmania and said he would send my refund but he never, ever did. I've contacted him several times after through his personal email account and in DVXuser but he never replies even after I see that he logs onto DVXuser so obviously he is trying to avoid giving me my due refund. I confronted him about that but he never replies to my followups.

Sounds exactly like what I dealt with. He replied once when I got a Moderator to send him an email. He said he would refund. Never happened. Never heard back from him.

He always says he's out of the country, but he logs into his account every day.

Edit: PS His number 214.884.9266 has been disconnected.
