Hi guys!
We went on a location hunt today for a movie we've been planning for about 4-5 months now.
It's only gonna be a short film, but we have had a limited amount of time to actually work on it.

But yeah, anyway..
As I said.. we went on a location hunt, I brought my DVX.. No SGpro..
And.. umm.. this is some of the most filmlike images I've ever gotten with only stock dvx:Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Some of it actually reminds me of the macgregor look..

I hope you don't mind but I'm going to be painfully BLUNT with you.

You should just stop shooting altogether.

I mean, if they see this, they certainly will come and confiscate your camera.
It's against all the rules, and you keep breaking them- there's a price to pay!

What's to say?
It's luscious stuff.
A palpable texture that evokes a passion for cinema in a pleasing, thought provoking fashion.

Well, there were no pretty Icelandic women in it---- the only shortcoming I can see.
KEEP UP THE GREAT EFFORT!!

I might be dumb but I ain't norwegian..

no wait.. that's the other way around..

The more correct response:

"huh??"

I think what NoNoob is trying to say is that a $2500 camera should not be this effective... even in the hands of a talented film maker.

It's a compliment.

Lost in translation.
My meager attempt at humor was missed*.

Looks great.
BUT- you must already know that, right?
Always quick to look at any footage you may provide.

*Same goes for the whole Icelandic/Norway thing.
I'm just stupid on a wet and rainy Sunday - if that's an excuse!

I apologize.

What the heck that is GREAT footage!!!! WHAT were your settings? did u even use post production software? Man if I could get that look wow that's cool!! Hope your actual film goes this well!!

Haha! :P
Well, sort of knew, but I wasn't completely sure:tongue:

I wasn't offended or anything:)
Thank you very much for the kind words!

Hehehe:tongue:
Thanks!
It's pretty heavily color-corrected though... I used magic bullet in premiere.
I'll post some before and after grabs :)

EDIT:
You also asked for settings..

The only thing I did in-camera was:
Master Ped = -8
Detail Level = -4

comparative frames like that are a real help.
thanks for doing that.

i just graded a :30 piece for a commercial (not my work) in COLOR.
wow-o-wow, that's a great tool!

have you tried that yet?

HEY- I wonder if you took the segment shooting the guy in the back seat if you could compensate for the backlighting by doing a fuzzy edged matte for the window part--- pull some detail out, even if it's just a tidbit?? that'd be a pretty easy test in AE?

and, you're shooting 4:3 and adding the mask after? yes. no. something else.

COLOR? Hmm, no haven't tried that.
I'll look it up :)

Fuzzy edged matte?
Not sure if I'm following.
You want me to mask him out and make the background fuzzy or blurry?

No actually I shot squeeze.
And for the letterbox I used "crop" in adobe premiere.. just cut the top and the bottom.

In AE you can add in a new layer comprised of a solid rectangle.
The edges can be formed (bezier) to an area within the background footage.
You apply a gradient blur to the edges of it (fuzziness).
Then, you can do a dodge or burn of the background from that.

If you notice in the comparison shots- the scene behind the character in the back seat is mildly suggestive in the original, but then gets blown out in the corrected version.
Maybe- and only if it lent itself to making the scene better- it could add detail.

You can also get the fuzzyedgedpiece to track the movement of the 'offending' area.
There isn't that much movement in the shot though. no worries.

It's just an idea. I might go try it myself. When time allows.

what did you use to uprez this? you you just export with HD resolution or did you use a separate program/plugin (like instantHD or something?)

looked great as always

I actually took the quicktime file that was 807x442 and used quicktime to export it to 1280x720 :P

Thanks noNoob, I think I know what you mean. I don't know if I will do it now though :P hehe
But thanks for the tip!

i just took my stock dvx on a location hunt too! this clip has made me want to edit the footage together :)

there is just something about an overcast day and a high contrast scene file/grading.

i discovered one thing while using the stock dvx - if you want circular bokeh circles you need to be wide open and less than 37 on your zoom. even if you're wide open, if you're more than zoom 37, you'll get a hexagon.

Expect to see my competing footage soon :D
