DVX Soft Mods

Is there a way to mod/hack the software on the dvx to add custom settings or changes? (like the CHDK mod for Canon still cameras) I'm looking for a way to get the time-lapse feature from the original (and a?) back onto my b-model. I've done a bit of searching with no luck.

I highy recommend the CHDK hacks for your POS P&S.

I've heard of DVX100 owners getting a firmware upgrade when they send their DVX for maintenance, but i've never found anything online i could do myself.

for time lapse, record like a whole tape of that scene without moving the camera and then speed it up in your editing program.

And if you require the time lapse to go on for more than an hour?
Use a second camera and chain the two with firewire so that the second one starts recording before the first one gets to the end of the tape. Replace the tape in the first camera and it will then start before the second one stops. You can use a cheap camera for the second unit, as you're only making use of the record heads.

Lol!

I'd much sooner just use the DVX100's function. :)

That's the problem, I don't want to waste the tapes and hours on my heads when I do multi-hour time lapses. Right now, I'm limited to my macbook's battery life (I run iStopMotion) when I'm in the outdoors.

Did Panasonic ever give a reason why they removed the feature?

the new tape mechanism prevents that function from being available.

if you can change the tape every hour - record via firewire to any cheap consumer camera so you don't jiggle the camera when you change tape. you'ld likely never notice 1 minute missing chunks once you speed it up

option two if you have a big hard drive - record via firewire to a laptop and speed up in post

just spitballing here.

You'll likely never regain the involvometer (sp?) on the B since its a mechanical limitation of the new tape drive.
