Thought about the RED SCARLET, but got the HMC150 instead

The title is rather funny.. Thought about Scarlet but got the HMC instead.

It's like saying "Thought about a rocket booster jet pack, but I got an Accord instead."

Rocket booster jet pack - not coming out til who knows when.
Accord - Reliable japanese car gets you from A to B. Even comes with seat warmer option. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

I wanted to get the dvx 100b last year when I had the money Panasonic anounced the hcm 150 with 60p capabilites , the pal ntsc swichablity was still uncertain.
I was saving for the cam but then I got the XHA1 sold it .For awhile I was eyeing the hpx 170. If I had the finances I would buy the hpx 171 from europe.
Anyways I needed a camera and Im quite happy with it.
Just finished a commercial shoot today and we are satisfied. Instant review onlocation love it. Some CC.
The final will be cropped to SD 4:3 .

Silly response my friend. The scarlet, despite protests that will probably come from you and other "fans" is vapour-ware. The HMC 150 is real. I shoot with one.
I won't bother to take the obvious shots at scarlet and Jannard, but so far I have seen nothing more than an alloy mock up that was scrapped and then a bunch of slick cg illustrations of a variety of versions.
So perhaps your sci-fi metaphor is not such a bad one when you refer to scarlet. I am sure Mr. Jannard is a fine person with the best of intentions but you can't shoot with intentions or cg illustrations or wish lists on the web. Buy real cameras, read science fiction.

in the meantime, i would love to have an answer to how you guys are financing your cameras after only 2 gigs. What kind of work are you finding and how are you finding it? Or how is it finding you? I live in Montreal which is a very busy city and I know there is work laying around if i just knew the best way to look.

That was my point exactly.. ha I'm the anti red fanboi.

I was actually kind of snickering at you for putting the HMC and Scarlet(vaporware) into the same string of thought.

Everts: are those screenshots from the HMC?

Maybe slightly but not substantially. I checked out the Zacuto results and have seen a lot of it myself...

it's not the same as when it's in it's 4k stuff.. Plus, not to get too scientific, but one of the pioneers in the biz said that the Red one isn't delivering what it claims and he called the camera as having "marketing pixels".

I think that this and other high res cams are awesome for theatrical work..... and really high end commercials that might require nicer lenses or such.. but for most things it might be overkill.

As far as the gigs. I technically had the camera paid off the first week I got it as I did a series of shoot for my church and then did a long week of post... So that was the first thing.

Since then I've done some decent commercial work, some corporate work, and I'm about to DP a couple of short films and maybe a feature. If you can get a decent camera and equipment rental and operator rate (750-1500 per 10, then do a couple of OT hours on each day, then it's not hard to make the cash back.

It just demands landing the right clients. This last gig I did was all shot on the 150s and it was national spots and some bigtime inhome video stuff. It wasn't dictated by price but by efficience, ease of shooting, and turn-around time.

I believe that Barry and jared had their HVXs paid off within a week or less and since that camera with package was 3 times as much, that's even better. Personally I have met some DPs and directors that can get 8K-12k a day as a standard rate and they are working a 100 days a year... Craziness.
