Here's the reason i decided to go with Mark 5d II instead of the EX1..

ok, i know a lot of people will disagree with me, knowing the limitation the Mark 5d II has, but here's my situation:

i own a Xh a1 and i'm very very happy with it, i do mostly wedding and concerts so the P2 wasnt really for me, beside i got great result once i've learned the a1 inside and out, many of u probaby saw my first video with the a1 done on a greenscreen: http://www.vimeo.com/1367409

i was saving money for the ex1 and letus because i wanted to focus on filmmaking and music video; spoke to a friend in France; talked about the Mark 5d II, he showed me some sample footage done with the Mark 5d II with minimal to no color correction, i was blown away....

here's one of the video he did recently: http://www.vimeo.com/3087193 (shot on the Mark 5d II)

i know this topic has been discussed many many time (still is), as for me, i decided to keep my xh a1 for concerts and long events, and get the Mark 5D II for music video and shorts, why? because in a controlled setting u get killer images, Dof, specially in low light, i know the ex1 and letus xtrem combo is amazing but we talking about roughly $7200; beside it's 2009, i'd rather save and see what RED has in store for us....u know,...scarlet
well, that's just my opinion, after seeing many footage of the Mark 5d and EX1 on vimeo and what my friend accomplished using not much light and very little effort... im sold on the mark 5d II. or least keep it for photogarphy.

i don't know if what i say make sens at all.

well, your turn...

RED has nothing in store for you. If you want RED, get a RED ONE, you won't be seeing anything from those guys for quite some time.

That said... I'm thinking the same as you. But doing some random testing on my own I wasn't as impressed by the image quality out of the camera as I was the downcoverted stuff at Web Resolutions.

Did you see anything played back @ 1080 compressed really well?

I've also been looking at the DSLR HD video modes in both the mark 2 and the D90. I'm gonna wait a while and see what gets announced in the next couple months. For the meantime an XH-A1 is not too shabby. Sure an EX1 is nice, but I agree that unless it is something that will make you money it is not really a must have.

So I take it the recent announcement about their suppliers having shortages is going to cause the wait to grow substantially longer? I figured the Scarlet wouldn't be readily available for quite some time, but still a bummer though.
