getting a used powerbook G4 for P2 - quick questions:

I think it is the 2005 model, specs are:

PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz 15” 512MB / 80GB / SuperDrive

Will I need to up the ram from 512 to a gig?

Is it a simple matter of installing P2CMS and using it, or are there drives for the P2 card I need?

I want to test it asap when I get it, but I am swamped with a post job for the next while, so I won't be needing to shoot on it in the immediate future.

No, you don't need more RAM, but it wouldn't hurt.

Install both P2CMS AND the P2 drivers and you should be good to go.

Test, test, test!

I had a G4 I used for a bunch of jobs to offload P2 and it worked like a charm. I'd recommend sticking with P2CMS as well. Simple and effective.

I just picked up a G4 last week. I wish I had done it ages ago, dealing with P2 in the field is going to be so much easier. Make sure you get the driver/formatter.

If you want to do anything with FCP or other taxing apps, def get some more RAM. You can find it for cheap on eBay.
 
i have a 1.0 ghz powerbook g4 17" that i used for field editing of my dvcproHD p2 footage in fcp 5.x. i was however, rudely surprised by FCP 6 telling me i needed at least a 1.5 ghz machine to run it. that was a drag!

regardless i still use it FLAWLESSLY for P2 injest in the field

got the machine - haven't set it up or tested it with P2 yet - any links to exactly what I need would be very helpful.

it is a 1.5 gHz machine, but I have my MBP duo 2.4 gHx for FCP.

What I need basically is the P2 drivers, and P2CMS...
I'll look into installing that in the next day or two.

I am comfortable with P2CMS as I have used it on my MacBookPro with the dual adapter, and I thought it would be basically the same on the power book
(but with out the need for the dual adapter obviously).
... at one point it mentions the latest version of P2CMS is only available for intel macs - not available for power macs (the older G4 powerbooks) - Is one of the links to an older version? if so do you guys know which I need?

I use shotput p2 for offloading the cards and P2CMS to spot check the clips on my PB G4. I was very pleased with this set up - I used to use my MBP laptop with a Duel Adapter - but the adapter doesn't work anymore.

P2CMS isn't "supported" on non-intel Macs - but that doesn't mean it won't work.
