walking to/from mcdonalds, i filmed some random night footage with my dvx. turned out pretty well for no lighting except the stores on the side. I love how noise-free it is...if someone wants the settings then i'll post them up.

I know the first bit is a tad out of focus but who cares

Need to work on your hand-held shooting. That was pretty shaky, and difficult to watch from the motion. And the framing is off at times as well.

Yeah, the DVX does really well in low-loght situations like that. You have really good exposure there. I would not call it noise-free, though. There's definitely some there, but that's the nature of a smaller chip.

Like "COPS", only better.
If you hung around trailer parks more you might get more 'exciting' footage.

Yeah, work on getting fluid with your hand held.
Think of your arm as a cantilever system, and all it's holding up is four pounds or so (can't get too tired doing that, right?)
Make the camera float out there on the end of the lever- you've got all the muscles and joints from your wrist to your shoulder to work with.

Air as fluid, the camera a boat.

If you're going to do a lot of hand held shots- forget about the side strap or even the top handle, get a pistol grip. It'll work wonders for your results.

Question; didn't I see that guy in the hoodie in a real "COPS" episode???

That looks pretty good, Dog. Did you use any gain for this?
no, i didn't use any gain.

And to answer the people saying that the footage is shaky, i didn't particularily care about how it came out because it wasn't for anything serious, but i just wanted to see how the camera worked in night-for-night shots as opposed to converting day into night shots lol

Just some information for myself for the future.

yah, know what you mean. done that too.
after a while you'll want to practice hand held- so you learn the skill.
or, cut around it when showing footage (no matter how insignificant it may be).

you switched to 1/8ND in the burger joint.
wonder what you'd end up with just letting it blow out instead.

never answered the question about the "COPS" segment featuring your mate there.

yea I switched it to 1/8 ND but then i turned it off after it was too bright

heres some more footage that I wasn't gunna post originally but since you asked about the blown out stuff, here ya go. The first clip where I follow her is ND 1/8 but then its off on the rest of the shots

nah, he wasn't on cops

Are you using the auto focus? Looks kinda slow to focus on alot of the shots? The youtube clip in McDonalds reminds me of a movie I saw not too long ago where the kid did nothing but video tape his entire life..........turned out to be a phsyco killer in the end................

I agree on the handheld footage, you need to think of the camera as an extension of your arm and your joints as a gimbel, camera stays steady while everything else moves around it kinda thing..........

Yea i was using autofocus on all the shots but I assist it with the focus ring sometimes

At night it's kinda hard to see what's in focus though but that's a thing I have to improve on.

Oh and let me know what movie that was because i'd definately like to see it :p

I remember the day I got my DVX. I did the same thing. Walked around downtown LA at night. It was great. Of course my previous cam was a High 8.
