Will the HMC fit in this backpack?

I would say no, not easily, and or not without taking off the eye cup and lens hood, but doing that, maybe.

Personally I would not want to carry my camera in that manner.
I prefer to have a camera bag that has padding on all sides, so the paint doesn't get scuffed up from constantly being rubbed against like a back pack does.

That's a good point, what would you recommend for an HMC? I'm still looking around the $200 range.

Thanks

cinebags CB-25 Revolution Backpack

I got one one of these and it fits the 150 perfectly. much better fit than the HB-207 from Kata which I sold to get this. The Kata is made really well and is a great bag but i didnt think the camera fit well in it plus its like wearing a big turtle shell on your back. The cinebags is lightweight and is made pretty good maybe not as good as the kata but its very comfortable. I got the digital camo version as i didnt like the lime green accents on the regular one. I dont know how paint gets scuffed off in a bag?? I've always owned a camera backpack of some sort and never had paint get scuffed off in any of them or in any bag for that matter

its under $200 @ B&H or at least it was when I ordered one.

kata 205 fits my dvx and other accesories well. I duno the size of the hmc in relation to the dvx but u can make a judgement off of that. the kata 207 iz bigger and may not be suitable for travel as carry on. depends on what u want i guess. but they protect ur gear very well.

I'm liking this one a lot. Anyone want to give me a reason not to grab this, or do you think this is quality?

Thanks so much for all the help you guys.

I just got my CB-25 from B&H last week for my 150 and it's a fantastic bag. I wanted the digital camo print but it's on backorder and according to Cine Bags, it's in limited production evidently.

The bag fits the 150 really well and is very light for its size. The only two faults I can find with it is: I wish I could remove the lumbar support straps and the access to the camera compartment is a bit strange, through the back of the bag as opposed to the outside; So in order to get the camera out requires you to lay the bag flat with the straps facing you. Otherwise it's a very good bag.

Well if you're on the go and want to pull the camera out, you have to lay the bag flat to access the back compartment's zippers, then pull over a water resistant flap to access the camera compartment. I can see some added security benefit to this, being that no one can mess with the expensive stuff while it's on your back, but it just takes a little more time to access the gear if you're on the move and are running n' gunning.

I dont think its odd at all and I prefer it this way. usually if im running and gunning i keep the camera in my hands so i dont find it inconvienet at all not to mention i have never really owned a cam backpack in which i could remove the camera while the bag was still on my back.

I use a Petrol bag, small and study! My HMC150 just fits EXACTLY! Then again, I can only fit very few things like battery, etc...

I agree, this is the one I chose. The way I set it up, it fits the HMC like a glove. It does indeed feel like a big turtle shell on the back, but it protects it pretty well. Extremely comfortable on the back. I bought it for the purpose of protecting/carrying the camera but also to hike into the woods with it.

It would hold my 17" laptop as well, but I have so much stuff in it that its gotten to the point where I don't want any more weight to carry. But for my vacation, the laptops going in there.

Hmm I found it really tough to get the 150 to fit in the 207. Plus the added pressure from the lid flap to the mic and handle etc. I'd like to see some pics how you have it set up. It was great for my DVX but the 150 is a good bit bigger all around than the DVX is.

is the eyecup smashed in the cb-25? Can you store the camera horizontally as well as vertically?

There's no smashing but it is a snug fit. The camera can only be stored vertically.

I wouldn't have ever seen myself spending much on a bag (have gotten by with standard backpacks), but the Katas are so badass! The 150 isn't much bigger than the DVX, so I wouldn't think it was an issue except on bags that just barely squeeze the DVX in. Read many reviews with the 207 and the larger HVX.

I got to see the 205 in person and really liked it... but I know the 207 has a lot more for a few bucks extra. The local shop didn't have a 207 on hand. The listed dimensions are significantly bigger, do any of you have an opinion on how much bigger the 207 is over the 205 in regards to practical backpack use (or if the 205 might fit the HMC worse)? I hear you can fit the kitchen sink in the 207... that is awesome when you want everything for a gig, but I can't tell if the bag might be a little oversized for a lot of the times I need to be mobile for several hours (potentially at crowded events). Normal bags smush down when not full, but camera bags tend to stay full size due to protective compartments. I hear the 207 doesn't meet flight requirements, but have read many reviews stating they never had a problem. Thoughts?

Was going to try to nab a used one, but people seem to be selling them for the same price you can get them new online.

I should probably organize the surrounding accessories a little better, but it holds the HMC (with 2 batteries), my HV30 (with 4 batteries), headphones, converter lenses, audio stuff including Videomic, Zoom H2, Olympus Voice Recorder and lav mics, and manuals, all in the main compartment. If you put the HMC in sideways, there's no pressure on it from the lid. The eyecup does not get smashed as long as you do not overstuff the top compartment, otherwise it pushes down into the main compartment.

sorry for the crappy cellphone pic. my cam fits perfect in my 207. i however, don't use the cams mic mount, i use the sms shockmount cause its quicker to get the mic on. i like the 207 for the laptop slot since i'm pretty much a 1 man band.

the only thing i don't like about it is that it can't fit as carry on with those little puddle jumper planes.
