Hpx300 rumors

Very, very excited about this camera, but I have no experience with CMOS chips, or 1/3". Any good resources that can give me an idea of how best to treat CMOS to avoid getting jello cam? I'm still shooting SD, but with a 2/3" Panasonic shoulder mount, and I really don't want to lose the weight and form factor when we transition to HD, but the 500 is too far out of our price range. Hence, the 300 may be perfect for us, if we can learn the caveats of CMOS and how to avoid their inherent issues.

Also very looking forward to video from this cam. Guess I won't be really productive at work this week! I'll be here hitting Refresh.

I haven't been able to read this whole thread yet but has anyone else notice that is has a "3.2-inch, 921,000-pixel LCD on the side of the camcorder"? This is the kinda shi* they needed to put on the hvx, hpx, and hmc all along! So much better than the 210,000 panels they use now, this new one sounds ex1 level.

lol Kholi do you measure your pixel count when you make up every morning?

I'm sorry but I'm with Noel on this one, image quality supercedes pixel count - its just one element. Nobody left the cinema demanding more pixels from any digital movies getting screened never mind what they could watch on even the biggest flat screens...

I mean its obvious.

That said the hpx300 sounds like a charming addition to the lineup, but please lets be realistic about it... I for one will seriously consider it as an additional cam to my setup.

guess that'll be one of the cool features of the upcoming hpx170a...

Well, this ends my thread participation! Nothing like good ol' Lawrijaffa in a thread to totally ruin it.

Jan,

The new lcd on the 300 looks really good.

Do you see it making it's way onto the next round of handheld P2 camera's?

BTW, 3 xlr inputs on a handheld P2 camera would be perfect! Genius on the 300! Soo close to hacking my hvx's for 1 more input.

I do like this camera for certain reasons, will there be a demo in KC anytime soon?

Very interesting, thanks Barry.

How does the AVC-I 50/100 stack up in terms of on-screen quality against DVCPRO-HD?

Hi,

Kevin sent me a version of the files in DVCPRO HD as I wanted an MXF version, and he had no means of recording it back from his timeline. Barry sent me the AVC-Intra files. There is more to see in the AVC-Intra. And in watching the DVCPRO HD, I was very impressed with the transcode to it, it really made for some of the best DVCPRO HD I have seen. The AVC-Intra Codec is just simply an amazing codec, 10 bit, 4:2:2 , Nice!

The guys did a great job.

Best,

Jan

Yeah, but it´s cheaper in the US. :)

It will be around 10.000 Euros ($ 13.000) over here and has probaly no 24 frames setting, just 25.

Frank

I was wrong.

It does 12 to 60 fps.

Is advertised now at 9.990 Euros + VAT, but comes with two 32 GB cards.

Plane trip from Hades. They actually taxi'd away from the gate, towards the runway, then decided they were "over weight" and pulled back to the gate and made eight passengers get off! Then some woman wigged out, said "I've never ever seen this happen and I've been flying forever and I fly so much, we're going to end up in the Hudson, aren't we? What's going on, tell us the truth, we're gonna end up in the Hudson!" (of course, this was a US Airways flight, going to New Jersey.) So then, other passengers started yelling for her to get off the plane so we could take off, and ...

Oh, I wish you still had the 300 on you and you could have rolled on that little comedy. Might as well give the camera a true reality show acid test!

[When it comes to low light] Same caveats apply, but in general it seemed very comparable to the 170.

Interesting camera. Exciting. Would love to see/hear if you can fully control your image like in the EX1. Being able to control different color setups as well as gamma would be nice. I definately see the "jello" in the vimeo video. But with CMOS - hey thats' life. Hats off to Panasonic, although I think they could have made a filabuster cam here - slightly bigger chips and more control over image and ebay would be flooded today with people selling cameras. The CA fix is nice addition though.

I looked up some specs for low light. Based off of the brochures I found for each camera:

HVX200 Low Light: 3 lux (F1.6, +12 dB gain, at 1/24 shutter)
EX1 Low Light: 0.14 lx (typical) (1920 x 1080/59.94i mode, F1.9, +18 dB gain, with 64-frame accumulation)
HPX300 (Based on the HPX301 brochure) : 0.67 lx (F1.6 , Gain 24dB , shutter speed 1/25 sec.)

I certainly agree about your comment 100%. I realize the 170's LCD has some groovy new tools, but in terms of LCD quality, it's pretty sub-par, especially for a camera that costs $5k + .

I'm glad a few of the internet reviews of the camera finally pointed that out.

The Paint menus are the same (or very similar) to the HVX/HPX cameras. You have the same Scene Files and the same level of adjustment. I shot the Vimeo videos in Cine V.
