Mr. Bale Apologizes

Bale's explanation:

In [T2] you will meet Sarah Connor. And she is in an insane asylum—why is she there? Because she is crazy. Now I play John Connor her son, and on the day that all of this happened

C'mon Bale, a spoiler alert here would be nice.

I like to go in fresh! :)

Bah, if it wasn't recorded for everyone to hear then there wouldnt be an apology.
And there shouldn't have to be a public apology. The person who should be apologizing is the person let it go public. What happens at work should stay there. If nobody got hurt and no laws were broken, it's nobody's business. Talk about unprofessional.

This makes no sense. He's only making this public apology to the world at large because this got out, but if it hadn't got out, he only needed to apologize to the DP, which he already had shortly after the incident occurred.

Exactly. Both men screwed up, yet only one took public heat and made a public apology. Actors may get more latitude with their behavior, but we also require more from them.

Especially when they yell and scream at everyone like a spoiled brat while the DP apologizes numerous times.
Take it from Bale himself, his behaviour was inexcusable.

I still don't see it that way. Bale overdid it,but he was yelling about the work, and trying to regain his composure. The DP didn't just keep apologizing, he apologized and was then making excuses, and that's what enflamed the situation. If he had just apologized, it probably wouldn't have gone on like that.

Dead horse anyone?

I also agree... but whatever... when your living is partly rooted in popular acceptance you have to be the person the masses want you to be.

I will say that it's been an interesting addition to the week... with Colbert and the mashups... I'm diggin' it :)

The DP apologizes immediately. He only begins to explain himself after the tirade goes on and on and Bale demands it.

Doesn't matter, I'll take Bale's word on it since he was there. He behaved like an ass and there was no excuse for it. He admitted that himself.

Either way, hopefully he's learned a little something from this.

Colbert's take on this was hilarious and it certainly added some good material to many of the late night shows.

Good for Bale , good for the Industry,:klap:

When is there a next clip coming out .
Maybe one from Clint Eastwood , Gran Torino .

I'll take Bale's word for it too, and I don't think anyone made the argument that what he did was okay (at least I know I didn't). I just think it's unfortunate that these are 2 professionals, both of whom screwed up, both of whom apologized to each other and worked it out. Yet only one of them has to take public heat for it.

The reason why only one of them is taking the heat for this is because only one of them didn't behave in a professional manner.

You call them both professionals but Bale certainly did act like one on that day. Now he's paying the price.

No big deal really. I'm sure the movie will do well and this will all be a distant memory soon. Probably won't hurt his career in the least.

Neither of them acted like professionals. How is tweaking lights or walking through an actor's eyeline actiing like a professional? I've only been making movies for 5 years or so, and even the amateurs I work with know better than that. A professional cinematographer should never have done it. It's as egotistical ("what I have to do is more important than any of the other people working on this movie at this moment") and inexcusable as any actor's posturing.

Harsh words are not the only way to show a lack of respect or professionalism.

Agree to disagree?

Yes, it sounds the like DP made a mistake. Does that make him unprofessional?
Professionals make mistakes, nobody is perfect.

What Bale did went far beyond that. Hence the apology. He himself admitted how there was NO excuse for his overreaction.
He acted in a unprofessional manner.

It should all die along with this thread.

Either way, we obviously don't agree so this will be my last comment on it. We won't change each others mind.

Cheers,

MAH

I think you're right, we won't change each other's mind.:)

But to me, what the DP did wasn't a mistake. A mistake is forgetting to check a lamp, not seeing a shadow in the shot or or setting a reflector incorrectly. Walking around or playing with lights during a take is either saying you don't know how to work on a set, or you think that what you're doing is more important than what everyone else is there for: to get the shot.

And that'll be my last comment.

Best

I agree that there was a mistake made, it just didn't warrant the explosive reaction that followed.

Some DP's are allowed to yell cut on a set depending on what's happening and their relationship with the Director.
Maybe that would have been better. Maybe not.

No, the reason only one of them is taking the heat is, the other one has absolutely no effect on the sales of the movie. The one taking the heat does.
Very true. That's probably the bulk of it. He may also want some damage control for his reputation as well. Admitting that he was fully at fault helps.
