Batman goes Nutzoid!

i'm on a dozen sets a year documenting the making of these pictures...
Zak, my man, what it is bro...
For the record, I wasn't taking aim at you, your experience, or your chops (all three of which you know I respect).

I was merely taking some exception with the thought that you and only you are "the only one who knows what the poo poo you're talking about".

Name actors are volatile, primadonna egomaniacs. It's just the way they are.

not true.

and Zak, I understand that angry situations happen all the time in the real world... the difference is that in Hollywood, A listers get away with this sh*t.... treating people sub-humanly

for example....

I work in the Geology field.... I do a lot of offshore work.... if there was some roughneck who thought he was hot sh*t and he got on the rig and started going off on the other roughnecks and tool pushers, he would get THROWN off the rig... into the water, sink or swim

this prima donna attitude comes from being a celebrity and being surrounded by yes men.... I actually feel sorry for people like Bale.... deep down you cant be a happy person, treating people like that.

haha.

listening to some of you go on about all this rotten Hollywood gossip and insider producer lingo makes me glad I stepped back away from the "industry".... the entertainment that is.

and this isn't a knock against anyone... I just find it hard to stomach this stuff.... I guess thats why I dont live in LA though

I'm sure that contractually it wouldn't have been quite that simple...

EDIT:

And let’s say for arguments sake that Bale had "walked off" the project...
How would that look for future negotiations? He quit over a moved light? Waaaahh:crybaby:

He's hot after The Dark Knight...he ain’t that hot IMO.

I can not agree or disagree with this statement for fear of another monkey lambasting.

Matt (the admonished one)

The thing I keep coming back to is the comparisons to other industries and the "prima donna" attitude.

This isn't a guy yelling for more fizz in his seltzer. This is a guy telling another guy that he is f-ing up something that they are all there to do and are all very invested in. Yes, he overdid it, and yes hollywood hot-shots can get away with stuff that others can not. But this tirade was about the work they were doing. Where DOESN'T that happen?

I'm thinking some of you must live in a bubble, because this is no different than most of the jobs I have had.

I cant wait to see Terminator Salvation,

I'll be wondering where does he get a hissy fit.

Just imagine if Arnold were in Bale 's place would the DP dare change a lightbulb.

" Hey puny man are you a professional For Fak sake !?"

neck deep in what?

I've worked on quite a few big Hollywood sets and dealt with my fair share of a**holes and two years ago I would have been like "aww no biggie, happens all the time" and it does happen a lot .... I get that and thats part of the reason I got away from working within that world. thats just me though.... more power to those who are doing their thing! somebody has to deal with these d bags and make these tent pole affairs.

I still think its an ugly thing... like I said, you can't be genuinely happy with yourself and treat people that kind of way. its that simple fellers.

I just hope Bale went and apologized later.

He had family **** going on, he's into the character, and somebody ****ed up his work. That's almost enough reason to justify anybody acting like this. But I wonder if, looking back, he realizes he could've handled it a little better.

Someone over at IMDb posted this very ironic comment;

You die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

there's a diff between gossiping and showing disdain for rotten behavior (via a msg board posting) at least to me there is... maybe I'm in the minority, who knows...

either way, you're right.... nasty sh*t like that happens all the time.

but does that make it right? Lets just ask ourselves one thing....

(((((( WHAT WOULD DDL DO?? )))))))

This argument doesn't apply here, because being an actor and being a geologist are two entirely different jobs. In almost no other profession is it required to be a raw emotional nerve ending. In most jobs, being cool, levelheaded and objective is a beneift. Not in acting. You are REQUIRED to be overly emotional, and the best actors not only pretend to be, they actually feel the emotions the scene requires. If you spent all day being an emotional wreck, do you think you could just shut that off, especially when encountering a situation that pisses you off? I'm not saying his behavior was right, but it's certainly understandable. Trying to compare what an actor does to what a geologist does is ridiculous. You can apply the same standards to every situation. If I treated my child the way a drill sargeant treats his privates, I'd be arrested.

So what you are saying is that people who can emotionally portray an American Psycho on screen, are allowed to be an American Psycho in real life?

Not reel life, mind you. ;)

No, I'm just saying don't be surprised if an actor playing an American Psycho behaves like one if he's interrupted while trying to be psychotic. Bale was in the moment when this happened. He wasn't at home watching TV.

I think it's a valid argument in the broad sense. I understand that not every actor would have reacted this way. But I have worked with some people who do more than just "pretend" when they act, and the results look amazing on screen, but take extra care and patience when it is actually happening. In fact, it's arguable that is what makes a great actor (not saying bale is one, but the point stands)

To get to that place emotionally is not easy, and you are very fragile when you are there. As the viewing audience we expect a level of authenticity in a performance that can be very difficult to achieve, and part of that process is exposing your psyche. Bad things can happen when you do that.

There's a great old school vs. new school story between Lawrence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman. Lawrence saw Dustin doing laps around the park, trying to get out of breath for a scene. Olivier went up to him and said, "Dear boy, why don't you try ACTING!"

Maybe if he was shooting the reader , slumdog millionaire , forest gump but
T4 are you serious these movies never reach an emotional level period .
