Can Anybody Here Write a Little Windows Utility? (Spanned Clips)

Hello,

I have been in contact with a Panasonic tech about turning spanned clips into one clip because I am losing some frames at clip span points. This is due to my Editor (Edius) not getting the GOP structure.

The tech gave me a DOS workaround which turns all selected clips into one clip. Perfect, but it is in DOS and very clumsy.

Does anybody here know how to write a little Windows utility so it would be easier to select files and folders to join clips?

Here is the code:

<Procedure to merge files>
1. Copy all divided files in a specific folder on the NTFS drive(ex.
C:\AVCHD Temp)
2. If the divided files are 1000.mts, 1001.mts and 1002.mts, Run
"copy /b 1000.mts+1001.mts+1002.mts AVCHDfile.mts" via [Command Prompt].
3. Then divided files are merged into a single file (AVCHDfile.mts in
the example).

Thanks and hopefully a little utility can be created.

What I personally think would be awesome would be if someone could write an app that would allow us to edit a project.. and then write it back to SD card that could then be used to play in the camera, on a panny plasma or on a blueray player. I think that's an awesome delivery platform and it's almost there now. I know you can with camera stuff.. but it would be great to be able to showcase a completed edited piece.

I also heard from a friend who went to CES that San Disk is expecting to have a 2 terrabyte SD card out in the marketplace within 2-3 years. I bet even then, that card won't be as expensive as one 16 gig P2 card at today's prices.

This is what I looked for here a couple of months ago, and I wish it were possible. I believe nothing currently exists. If you can go AVCHD to p2, why not AVCHD sequence to AVCHD or pro res to AVCHD.

To write back to the PRIVATE folder out of a sequence would be great for presenting the footage using our Panasonic blu ray.

Raylight will write a FCP sequence to a p2 card.

Are the docs explaining the exact specs of the AVCHD files publicly available? I was looking into doing something like this, but was having trouble finding much more than the directory structure and the different file types. If you could just drop the stream files in, it would be a breeze, but the camera expects to see clip files, thumbs, playlists, etc.

The specs are not freely available. Same goes for the BD-ROM specs as AVCHD is basically a subset with some additions.

I do think though that a way to write to SD media would be awesome. The whole thing though is so shaky as something even better may come out. Technology moving too rapidly to consider anything with more than a 10 year life expectancy in terms of in use operation and also archival.. maybe besides some tape, and ultimately film. If you wanted someone to see your project a 100 years from now. Film would be the best bet.

I did a test. Shot two clips - both short.

Trashed one of the stream clips and the corresponding clipinfo file and tried to play the SDHC card in our Panasonic blu ray player. Wouldn't play

The WD media player works with bare mts files. but the extensions have to be change to m2ts I believe.

Look great though
