DVCPRO is a very good codec and since it is essentially lossless, you aren't going to see any difference.

Uhhh...

DVCPro... lossless. Where did you get that idea?

Almost lossless when coming from AVCHD. It's gonna be pretty tough to see a difference in a side by side comparison.

Not to mention he is going to be mixing with two other HVX's.

Assuming his NLE allows him to output DVCProHD in 1920x1080 and not the codec native 1280x1080 which would then need to be stretched. It also means he's in a 8-bit codec, which is less than ideal for post.

Workable issues for sure, but when better solutions are at hand for no cost, why not use them?

To my eyes, there is a very noticeable drop in sharpness for 720p content and the color comes out a bit different. I don't know how anyone in video couldn't see the difference side by side, but maybe not the average user on an average tv. If mixing with other HVXs, then it should work well and match nicely. But personally, I'd shoot 1080 (in both cams) if planning to edit in DVCPROHD to preserve more of the detail (plus you get the extra bandwidth for editing).

Agreed.
