Everybody has to make their own decisions about this.
Its important to realize however that it is potentially dangerous.
Try not to let yourself be pressured if you don't want to.

When I went over the Rockies in Glacier Nat Park. I gave in to pressure and in fact it was an absolutely wonderful experience with a great pilot.

I wouldn't choose to do it again though.

One friend of mine went down in SF Bay with an inocuous sounding traffic helicopter. Thank god everyone was OK.

I have shot quite a few aerials.....with being said, you have consider the pilot as being kind of a Camera Operator as well.... A good pilot with experience carrying cameramen, has an eye just like us.......I remember once flying over Sao Paulo with a former Brazilian Air Force pilot.....this guy did stuff that made me look like a rock star. Communicate with your pilot.....he is working for you and will give you what you want provided he (or she) feels it is within their abilities and within safety limits.......and it is a F-----G rush when you get the shot....and believe me, you will know when you get the shot.

A helicopter, used carefully and safely can be the right tool for certain shots.

However when used incorrectly and carelessly, like many methods, helicopters can be extremely dangerous.

When you fail to respect something, that's when it kicks your ass.
