Canon XHA1 & Letus Extreme surf footage.

Pretty gorgeous surf footage from Lyall Bay, Wellington, New Zealand.
The Planets aligned and I got a unique kind of angle to shoot from (nearly side-on to waves), a south facing coast (sun sets along wave) and a fresh offshore breeze to get some interesting shots.
Shot with a Canon XHA1 and Letus Extreme with a Canon FD 300mm f2.8 lens.

Did you shoot 60i and convert for slow mo?

I liked it. Never been surfing or to New Zealand, but it looks fun. If only I could go work for WETA, that'd be great.

Was it hard to keep focus, since you used a 300mm lens?

I'm in PAL land so I used 50i and put it in a 25p timeline.

Yeah it was a bit tricky. Hehe, I'd say 50% of the shots I had to dump due to being soft.

It's a budget 100mm bowl fluid head on pretty much standard generic legs. I think it's cheap stiffness helps me haha.

The thought is seriously crossing my mind - it's not much of a distance mind you.

Ya considering you can slow down the clips like that, it will be easier to make a film long enough, so just find more music like you've got and go do it!

I made an offroad film 40 min long, and I'm not gonna lie - it wasn't anything special - but nofear bought 1000 copies and it was nominated for an extreme sports video award...so I would think you can have much better luck with the larger surfing world.
