Importing clips to FCP from Firestore??

We are shooting a documentary on the Panasonic HVX200, using an FS-100 firestore.

Now, we are running into problems importing the footage from the firestore into Final Cut Pro 6.0 When we go to file-->import, there is no P2 option. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or--better yet-- know how to fix it?

Thank you!

FCP can't "import" P2 footage directly. You have to use FCP's log and transfer to get the P2 footage into FCP. Usually the best workflow is to copy the P2 Contents folder from the Firestore (making sure to have the firestore make the p2 contents folder structure) to a harddrive on your computer. Then you can bring the footage in using FCP's log and transfer or a program like DVFilm Raylight for Mac to get the footage into your NLE. Raylight will make quicktime reference movies that FCP can really import.

You probably can read up a lot more on this in the FCP section of the forum about log and transfer.

Best,
Andy

There is no more import p2 option, that was only for FCP 5.1.4 or older, 6.0 and up replace that with a Log and Transfer window.

Also make sure you've set your Firestore to PC mode and that you had organized P2 before setting it in PC mode.

What version of the firestore are you using? newer firmwares allow you to record in quicktime mode, and if you did that then the footage would not show up in the log and transfer window. You can simply import those files directly through Import-File.

Still I'd highly recommend you record in the P2 format and transfer the MXF files from the firestore to an external hard drive and treat those as your master files to an external hard drive instead of doing a log and transfer directly from the Firestore.

So here's a question. I have imported average HD 720p clips into FCP via firestore. My clips from the firestore show up in the Log and Transfer window but where there should be a "clip" picture image there is not one.
Also
When I try to drag one of these pictureless clips into the "Add Selection to Queue" box there is an exclamation point in the status column.
... What did I do!?

You need to supply more information for people to troubleshoot the problem.:)

Can someone please walk me through uploading form a fire store 100 to a mac book pro. I just would like a step by step guide....i will be shooting in 720p/24fps. And will be uploading the files to my firestore 100 via quicktime.
