So anyone ever have this happen to them?

So were shooting a casting audition and all of a sudden the lcd screen reads a writing error. I went into the P2 thumbnail screen and there was one clip red and the rest were fine. So I tried to play one of the good clips and they went all fuzzy and distorted. Well I took the P2 Card and write protected it. But when I checked the P2 card again all the clips were gone but on the record screen it still showed the card space as footage on it? Ive tried everything FCP, All the softwhere Panasonic has, and a duell system adapter. But I cant seem to get anything. Does anyone have any Ideas? Thanks

try transferring direct from your cam to the computer, if that dose not work, it's service time.
I had some strange happenings a while ago, a camera firmware update fixed the issue, check that your cam's firmware is upto date, and the P2 cards firmware too.
can you try the card in another cam ?. or try another card in that cam to test record/play.
Trial and error in the first case. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply man, I wish I could try it in another camera. The card still can be recorded on but the files that were on it arent there, even when I try to go righting into the card from a computer. Its so weird and I've never heard of it before. Thanks again!

This is VERY unusual. The only time a red number shold be present is if the camera record settings are set differently than the clip you are trying to play. I am guessing you tried both camera slots.

How frequently is the card used, and how long has it been used for?

I know, I've only used the card for a handful of shoots its an 8GB so its old but P2 card dont really wear out. Its in great condition, and I keep it safe when not in use. Yeah has anyone else ever had anything like this happen?

Hi dowese,

have you checked the firmware.? maybe some issues with cam n card.?
I'd say if your files are not showing it's all over, maybe someone else could suggest better.?
If you have any space left on the card, try recording a few sec's more to it , then see if all your thumb nails show up...worth a try.

I tried shooting more and it showed up, but the card still read only 7 min left with 20 something taken up (I was shooting dv so the total time is like 33). I have never heard of this before man.
Thanks man

Hi dowesee,

I'm guessing here but if you can't see em , i'd say it's all over for that vision. Maybe you had power spike or the card was ejected while recording ?, If you take yourself back you may find an answer?.
Can you get another card to test in the camera to see if it records OK on a fresh card, (process of elimination).

Is the thinking here that if you don't use your cards frequent they go bad? Not sure this is a valid questions unless your storing them in a unsafe place.

I dont have another card but will soon be getting a 16gb one. I know its a bad situation.

Hi Dowsee,

If you get anymore cards, make sure of the firmware in your camera is the latest and also firmware of the cards are current too.
checkout-- http://panasonic.sixbullets.net/ it's a great source of info for all Panasonic firmware drivers etc. I'd recommend a 32 gig if your budget will stretch they perform much better for me than the two old 8gigs I have, others will disagree no doubt.

Have you looked at the files themselves? Look into the folder structure and see if there are XML files and MXF files for each clip that you saw before. If they are there then you might be able to recover something. If the XML files (in the Clips folder) are corrupted in anyway then FCP and P2 CMS won't recognize them. These files could be repair and your footage recovered.

If you've given up on the footage then I would format it and make sure to run the card through your camera a couple of time before using it again.

Yea I check the folder structure and there's not anything there. But when I got back into filming mode it says there is space. Thanks for the reply everyone!
