Red Ruination Blue - a production blog

Oh boy Adam I get the implications however slight the hints are...In the Political climate of the world at large it is going to stir up some ****, But I see how you guard yourself from the Hollywood left but they are very much like the Son in the story arent they.

But the Europeans will never forgive this film. I can only think of one other Country outside the States that will pick this up. I think you know what I am infering.

My question to you is if you have "Hanger" do that first before this one. Build a solid ground before you invoke the wrath of the left its a nightmare because even if you have a couple of Actors in your corner the media will punish you and thus sales. Wait before making so many enemies untill you have made at least friends of equal strength and your position is secured.

Or if you insist on going forward change the characters from Chem & Beth the two caucasion Jews to a Black family or if you want to give them very little leway & still toy with them and maintain your point of view make the Father Black and Mother White so that Chem the Son is a Mix...Yin/Yang Right/Left Black/White...Bigger Demographic more controversy yet still politically incorrect enough to challenge the politiaclly correct idiocy that is the norm these days.

DogDay.

I suppose you could say Shem is a picture of the left but it's kind of a stretch to say so after seeing the film. It's not that black and white.

Also, Shem and his family are not Jewish. I picked that name simply because Shem was a picture of the sons of Noah, who had to live in a brave, new world. Even though we derive the word Semite from Shem, in my story, they are a nominally Christian family, non practicing.

Let's not delve too much into the politics of the movie....it's really not an Anti Left film whatsoever.

If the story is about something very personal: i.e., seeking freedom, protecting one's family, saving someone, etc... it will be universal and appeal to many, no matter what political color a person wears.

It's very much like that. Shem is forced to carry a burden that many sons can relate to: He can never quite measure up to his father, and that quality makes Red Ruination Blue a very personal story.

Wow Adam, I really like this idea! I know it's definitely something I'd want to see! Best of luck!

Well thats a releif to hear because people don`t forget, The tip was the Demographic and yes they are people good people but a lot has been projected onto them, by you so early on making product for them I wonder if that will add or detract from future endeavors. I was trying to solve that issue by throwing out some suggestions to adress that...You know what you are doing no doubt.

By focusing on the Uniiversal themes you avoid painting yourself into a corner or shooting yourself in the foot.

Remember Hollywood never forgets.

I wouldn't worry about it.
In Adam's case, as in all of our cases on this forum, we should be concerned that Hollywood "remembers" first, before worrying about whether they forget.
All press....

I think measuring up to father cant really relate to many peoples today ,this was used in spider-man plot and wasnt really very strong part of script ,instead today most of my mates dont ever want to look like their fathers cause most of them are alcoholics or just have problems with drinking.Thats the reality ,most of the people when i ask about fathers they telling me that fathers have problems with alcohol. This was part of plot in good will hunting , and maybe one of the reasons why it received and award.
But what do i know ,probably nothing.
But still i think that it really deserved this award.
One of the best scenes:

wow - that's a little off the wall - the part about the alcohol. In any case it's simply one more element of the plot, not the whole story.

The key to this is to make a film that expresses a viewpoint and transcends normal boundaries. This film is not a political statement, it's a piece of entertainment. It's serious material, for sure, but nothing that's going to hurt it, I don't think.

I think you are dead on there, and I have no doubt you can do it (or sell it on your own if you have to), I'll just be curious to see if you meet any resistance as you try to pre-sell. If you make a great film with a great cast that people want to see, then studios will be throwing money at you to take it off your hands, regardless of the message. Can't wait to hear more!

You are 100% right, but not all of Hollywood is as liberal as you think. Sure, there are libtards in high places in Hollywood, but just as the article you sent me states, lots of conservatives.

We had Conservatards running the show for the last 8 years and got closer to the fascist dystopic fantasy than we've ever had. Just ask the Dixie Chicks, former Governor of Alabama Seigelman, or the guys who ended up at Gitmo for years and were then released with no charges filed.

You have real life instances of what you are talking about in your story that actually occured under the last administration, not at the hands of Liberals.

Stereotypes aren't true and are a lazy man's way to view the world. Like most of us, I have friends who are conservative(rednecks) and liberal(hippies). Exchanging ideas with all of them are some of the best, smartest, most passionate conversations I have.

A smart piece that inspires discussion will have a better chance of broader appeal than a paranoid rightwing survivalist fantasy that just reinforces stereotypes.

My 2 cents.

Chris

P.S. And I still can't wait to read it. :)

Wolverines! :)

Which reminds me, Red Dawn, the film that Chris is alluding to, is probably the closest thing to the ultimate survivalist flick out there. 25 years after it's release, it's still spoken of reverently by those in the survivalist societies and gun owners in general.

It's not the greatest of films, and certainly doesn't have much in common with RRB, but man, what a blockbuster cult flick for my target audience that film has become. If I had half the success of that flick I'd have hit a home run!

Wolverines!

Best of luck - but are you not worried about the sleaze factor associated with "targeting" a certain audience - considering that it is a serious subject. That's like making a holocaust movie "targeting" the jewish movie goer, or selling Coca Cola merchandise with Che Guevara printed on them. It just seems like a bad choice to be pimping the ideology that has brought so much bad, even just from a business point of view. Also and I love conspiracy, spy, war... movies but after 8 years of hell in times where truth has become stranger than fiction, how is any war movie going to top what we see on CNN. Aside from that here is no way a pro Republican movie is going to win any awards in the near future not in the US and not in Europe. Maybe this is not the angle of the movie but this is at least how it comes across, so you see it is a touchy subject. - Just some food for thought.

It's not really a pro republican film. It's not really a war movie either. You're just going to have to wait and see.

Actually the film is very party agnostic - mainly borne out of my own personal beliefs that the governments of this country, both Republican and Democrat, have gone out of their way to water down the constitution of this country so that in practice, our laws do not reflect what was originally intended by the founding fathers. This film takes this thought to it's logical progression, and should prove to be a fascinating perspective to anyone watching. It's not political. The film never mentions any parties nor does it have any politics in it.

It actually shows how extreme right wing viewpoints can be just as dangerous as left wing political correctness.
