Oleg got banned again, fifth time. Now he will come back with some new name, he always does. But my point is that though he can seem abrasive, I surely have been the focus of some of those, he is also a very knowledgeable mixer AND there is a language barrier. He tends to use S*it and some other expletives more than most, but I think this is poor translation more than outright aggression. I guess my point is that there are not that many experienced working professional (in audio) that regularly respond on this board. And while he can be, often is (or seems) aggressively antagonistic. I would put it out there that he is no more so that a lot of what one has to deal with in the biz. Directors have been known to throw furniture at mixers, so a little abusive language seems a bit tame. Anyway I'm worried that banning folks may be not the right thing to do in all cases. Oleg brings a lot of knowledge to the table and he is pugnacious enough to keep coming back. I'm not sure I would be. Professionals can get passionate about what they do, isn't that a good thing? If they get banned for being professionally passionate are we not risking the elimination of the professionals from the board? This comes home a bit since I was the one arguing with Oleg and it seemed unfair that he would get banned and I not. Then I though, would I come back? Maybe, maybe not. And if I wouldn't how many other pros will be lost with this policy? I think one needs to balance good information and helpfulness with passion and language barriers. What people in the US say in person is radically different from what we are willing to accept on line. Oleg didn't say anything that I haven't heard in person, and his private emails are even more spicy. The point is that with folks who are not english "society" natives some guidance may be in order rather than just kicking them out. The alternative is having the board not having the professional responses that it has now. You ask a question now and you have evey one from a high-school student with no experience to pros with LOTS of experience answering. Personally I think that is a good thing.
Well enough of my rant. But if the list can't handle Oleg then it can't handle 90% of what a working professional deals with every day.
