This is getting harder than finding a Wii

Want to get the Panasonic AG-MC200G Unidirectional Microphone (for 150) but every place I call says it needs to be special ordered and it takes a while. Any place that actually has these in stock? Can they be ordered direct from Panasonic?

Even places like BH does not seem to stock them.

Thanks!

Found that first..they don't stock it..I talked to them on the phone...its a special order..even though the website makes it seem like its in stock

Yeah I am not sure why they put it on their site. Every place I have checked needs to "order" and I have not found a place who actually stocks it.

I don't think you can get that for $150.
The reason they are not stocked is because there are better mics in the $300 range,
the price the mc200g usually sells for.

Ooops. Missed that.

The pricing is at least $300.00.

And as GH states, you can get a pretty good mic for that price right now.

rec?

SO what would you recommend GH? I was going to buy the MC200G, but after reading your comment, I'd like to know what you think would be a better investment - thanks!

I was actually looking at the Rode NTG1 as I can get it a little cheaper and it seems like it may be more boom pole mount friendly (though for now I just want a camera mountable with xlr connectors). DO you think it is a better mic?

i found a ntg-1 in a pawn shop today for 120... my friend bought a 185 dollar guitar amp for 155, so i'm hoping they'll hook me up with that deal too =]

Again, it is my opinion that anyone who sells mics would sell more upgraded mics in the $300 range than to sell the MC200G.

The MC200G would be great for $150, but I have never seen it for that price, that being said, you can get either of these:

Sony ECM-673

RODE NTG-1

To throw another mic into the mix - how do you think the Audio Technica AT875 stacks up compared to the Rode NTG1? I think I have now narrowed it down to these two - I've ditched the MC200G on your advice...

For the money, that would be the one I would recomend, the AT875... I forgot about that one.

i'm sorry for pestering - but which one would you go with?

I would recomend the AT875. It is a good overall mic for on camera use, and is shorter than most other mics you could buy in the sub $300 price range.

I think AT mics roll off the bass more than I prefer, but most people seem to like that.
It has less handling noise, and less room noise than many mics.

Most don't realize that a shotgun type mic is good for outdoors, but not so good indoors in a live room. Due to the shortness, and roll off, it works decent in both areas.
