New to forum and the HVX 200 AP - Harrdrive Recording Question

Do I need P2 cards to record HD?

Can I use the firewire or USB ports and attach the camera to some sort of harddrive, like a RocRaid, or laptop and shoot in the different HD formats directly, or do I absolutely have to have P2 cards?

I realize this exact question has probably been asked 28 times already, so thank you for your patience.

You can record HD to the P2 cards, or you can connect the firewire port to a number of different HD recording options, including a DVCPRO-HD tape deck, a FireStore FS-100 hard disk, or direct to a computer running capture software such as FCP, Adobe OnLocation, EDIUS Broadcast, or Avid.

Sorry, can you explain that David?

Hence I can't what?

I can't stream HD through the firewire?

Thanks for taking the time to answer this very basic question...

Yes you can stream 1080 HD out the firewire, or the 720p modes of HD. But if you choose a 720pN mode, the firewire port becomes deactivated.

Hence you can't stream anything pNative out firewire.

As to all the other formats, you can

Sorry, I was so obtuse.

Thanks so much guys.

I'm sure I'll have a lot more basic/stupid questions to ask before I have a full grip on everything.

Regards in the highest degree!
