Help - Outside Light to be masked in FCP as night-time?

Shooting a scene with a character in bed and will be shooting with outside light coming into the scene and wanted to, in post production (Final Cut Pro). I am going to shoot with DVX100 and Letus35mm adapter or for less fuzz, just the DVX100 and want to bring down the light levels and make it seem like it's in night-time. Does anyone know the settling that it is called in Final Cut Pro? I have Final Cut Pro 3 so I'm sure if I'd have some sort of filter in it, or can anyone tell me what it's called. I've seen it done where you can shoot in day and mask it as night (wanted to do that for the shot of a man in his bed).
 
But there's more to day-for-night than a blue treatment. You're going to want to light the bedroom up so that there's not such a drastic difference between the light level inside and what the sun is sending in. And is needs to be contrasty. Hard shadows. Once you've lit for that, you can iris down to compensate, then use color correction to add the blue.
 
well i dont have FCP...but if u want to achieve it in production u can white balance on a cool card and play with ur iris or shutter to cut light to where u see fit...or since light iz coming in, white balance to tungsten to make it look blue and again play with iris/shutter to ur desired look.

White balancing on the cool card maybe better, because u can control how harsh it is based on the level or the coolcard.

Or just block out all the light from the sun with some dark material...and use gelled lights with a cookie to imitate the light coming through a window.

edit: as cv2 said though...u'll still have to light accordingly even with the white balancing which maybe a tad tricky...but play with it and test out what works
