Why isn't there a 1080 24pN?

There is 720 24pN but no 1080 24pN? Juts wondering why, it would've been nice to over/undercrank in 1080p! Technological limit of 1/3" CCD?

I've often wondered this myself.

A number of factors,

the most immediate is that DVCPRO HD has a 1080 interlace specification, meaning whatever signal is recorded at 1280x1080 has to be contained within an interlaced "wrapper" (i.e. pulldown) so there cannot be 24pN because that mode is completely frame dependant

Correct. In the newer codecs, like AVCHD and AVC-Intra, they build in the provision for 1080/24pN.
