Hi
I am planning to buy a professional camcorder, i need to make documentary films and i would used for studios.

which is better according to the quality , zoom, 1080i or 1080p:
1) Sony HVR-V1U 3-CMOS 1080i Professional HDV Camcorder with 20x Optical Zoom

2) Panasonic Pro AG-HMC150 3CCD AVCHD 24fps Camcorder

what about JVC GY-HD110U High Definition 3-CCD MiniDV Professional Camcorder with 16x ProHD Fujinon Lens

thanks

i think the size, audio and lowlight of the HMC overpowers the V1U, and sorry to sound biased but i don't think i'd ever buy a JVC product.

I may not be the best to answer that question, but I'll chime in anyway! :)
The HMC-150, which I own and operate constantly, is an amazing camera, but has a crappy standard battery and is notoriously difficult to edit although I did discover that there are a lot of factors and work arounds that help ease the pain. Like previously stated, the low light is tremendous. I shot a short this weekend with practical lights and no gain, at dusk, facing east, and still dialed down to 5.6 to get my shots. The lighting was motivated, just bright to the 150's eye! That's great. Also, there has been a lot of talk about long shooting issues with various media, so beware on that.

The V1U is a good camera and is capable of rendering nice images; I enjoyed my time with it. However, there are several cameras that just quite frankly out-perform it. Plus, Sony just... I don't know... unless you are going EX1...

Now on to the JVC- It's only, 720 which isn't necessarily a weakness, but after using it on a few shoots with friends, they turned it into a table leg for an art "film" they were doing with a DVX... yes, after they got their hands on a DVX, they turned their JVC into furniture...

This is my experience though, but I would rate them

1. HMC-150
2. V1U
3-135. Something else
136. HD110U

When looking at the footage from the V1 and the HMC, the V1 looks sharper with less noise. A lot of it is due to the edge enhancement however (you can see a black outline on objects in high contrast). The HMC looks just like a DVX but in HD (more organic looking). When turning on the film look settings, the V1 looks like video trying to look like film. The HMC actually looks like film. You can really see the compression artifacts on the V1, especially on areas of flat color. The HMC has none. The rolling shutter is the worst part about the V1. When trying to stabilize the V1 footage in post, the wobble is really noticeable (there is nothing you can do about it). The HMC is lighter and easier to hold handheld. The one big advantage the V1 has is the zoom.
