Fiber screens, the future of the 35mm adapters?

with the brevis + brevis flip, you get no vignetting on the fd 28 f2.0 and 24 f2.8. Without the flip, the 24mm sucks.

Doesn't that mean the vignetting is the result of the strain on the video lens focusing close on the screen, not on the relation between the screen and the 35mm lens?

I have no idea, it def could be that the gg is farther from the video camera lens. I know others have reported improvements on wider angle lenses with the flip module.. but at the same time worse performance on their telehpoto lenses. I haven't done full tests with my 24mm f2.8, but in know that vignetting improved a lot.

Yep its about distance... close focus (~8cm with no flip) is much more critical than ~16cm distance which is the average distance that light travels through most of the prisms...

So Evangelos, have you had the chance to test the fiber screen with a Letus Extreme?
Mine came back from repair a few weeks ago, and am curious if/weather it's workable or image quality might show an improvement.
In the past I had a fiber optic adapter for a nikon camera back made to do 35mm polaroid tests which were outstanding, subjects were always asking to keep them.

What is the exact size of the LEX GG?

Can someone post a photo?

Just a crazy idea.

I wonder if it is feasible/cost effective/useful to design an adaptor in which the gg screen and the flip prism is one piece of curved 160mm long fiber shaped roughly like the letter Omega.

Seems pretty crazy :-)

Where does the flip occur?

Here's a crazier idea: what if you did have a longer fiber tube, but it twisted along its length so the fibers at the bottom ended up at the top and vice versa? Or does that get the image right side up but still flipped left to right? My brain hurts.

OK I have checked these possibilities ... Actually they all exist, the twist is doing the invert...

The problem is that as longer are the fibers, that difficult is to have less blemishes... especially in the twist... in an application like this the minimum blemish size could be 6 to 10 pixels, in contrast of 1 - 2 pixel that we have now... and to many blemishes...

There are also tapers that can increase light performance by one stop... but they weight one kilo... so how to vibrate or rotate...

So no go... unfortunately...

If this thing works with the EX1, with optimal edge to edge sharpness I'm basically sold

Steve Cahill have som great Letus autopsy images on his blog:
http://web.mac.com/stevecahill/Steve_Cahills_Blog/Blog/Entries/2008/1/6_Letus_Autopsy_1.html

The GG size is 46x30mm according to this page:
http://support.letusdirect.com/index.php?tsrc=knowledgebase&category=C1&act=45

But maybe the GG is larger than that to enable the GG frame to grab it?

It would be great to try one of your screens in a Letus since it has a EX1 fix and the form factor is much better the Brevis.
I'm up for taking my Letus apart and do a Beta test!

I dunno, there's really nothing to hide with the brevis. It's opened up all the time when users adjust oscillation or swap imaging elements.. Cinevate has videos of it opened up on their site.

So what's the status, Evangelos? Is it on hold due to the holidays?

Where can I order one of these? I have the flipped Brevis MP.1 and a Canon HV20 and capture uncompressed via the Intensity card. I'll be glad to test with my very extensive set of Canon FD lenses.

I think he's expecting a new batch of updated screens late december or early January.. so until then I'm guessing there won't be anything new.

This is a new footage, with the FiberScreen, that I was trying to find a good way to show it in the web...
Unfortunately Vimeo wasn't so good so I choose to write my own page and load the footage.

As its being requested I switch the vibration on and off, also intentionally I left same dust on the FiberScreen to be visible when its vibrating and when its not.

Also on this test I'm using the GG.relay Rev2 in the Super 35 frame size with Brevis and Varicam. The relay is set to F2.8

I'm expecting the new FiberScreen prot. 4, with the curved side, in the next ten days...

There seems to be quite a bit of CA in the image. Is that due to the screen or perhaps the Relay?

Thanks for keeping us updated. While I find the new Cinefuse X beautiful, it still has too much grain, even at f4.

For your next round of tests, can you do a specular highlight test? Like shots of light bouncing off shiny objects such as glass or metal.. or even on point lights such as christmas liights.

thanks!

What I have noticed is that with Leica R 35mm Elmarit I didn't had any CA... but with ZF 28mm at F2.8 I get this... My problem is that I don't own the Leica lenses so I can't test it... I will have a TVC in 20th of February that I will work with Leica lens again... the worst CA is with the ZF 50mm 1.4... even at F4 I have very bad CA... the relay is very neutral but to show that I need a chart that has a size of a film frame... I tried to do it with a film recorder but the result in positive was not so good to measure CA...

I will put up same more clips to have a better understanding of the performance of the Relay/FiberScreen...
