thank you captain zerg! :)

yes it was shot with the sgpro. the softness comes from the adapter mixed with the incredibly soft light coming though the windows. and the fact that i'm just winging focus on the fly with the dvx's LCD..

thanks anthony!

here are four full rezz frame grabs from my film.

these are close to the final colour grading

i still have one more scene to shoot and some pick ups. it'll be finished by the end of next week :)

wow, that really has great film-like quality about it. Keep it up, can't wait to see it in its entirety

i am quite depressed at the moment :(

last week i had to hand in my 70% complete film to pass my course. it was complete enough to make sense. although the sound was a bit all over the place and it was only half colour graded. i passed. and it was even picked to be screened at the final year screenings. they only pick the good ones :)

so i invite my actors and everything to see this incomplete version of the film and what do you know... my film is the only film to f*ck up on the night. they played it for 3 min with no audio then turned it off....

it had nothing to do with me. completely the techies fault. and to top it off i still haven't been able to organise the filming of the final scene. half my actors are not getting back to me... i think i've left it too far after the initial production to keep them enthusiastic about the project.. so i'm not sure if this film will ever be "complete"...

right now i'm just deciding whether to add film grain to the final piece...

no grain

with a lot of grain

i'm using the after effects "add grain" effect and mucking around with the presets and the blending modes. what do you guys think of the whole film grain thing?

woah woah waht what??? why add grain?!?! It looks pretty awesome w/o grain.

Really sorry about the whole unable to finish the project thing. That must kill =\

a few people on here add film grain to their projects. it's just another device to get away from the digital look. i'm not too sure about it myself. just mucking around with the idea. it'd take days to render out the whole 17min film... and i mean days....

thanks for the sympathy :)

two more grabs. this one's a bit more subtle. the last one used a VISION 800T preset with "film" blending. this one uses a VISION 250D preset with "film" blending.

also i'm making the grain monochromatic and setting it at 720p resolution over the top of SD footage so it's a lot finer than normal.

Nice Patrick, your original footage looks the best to my eyes. Looks like a cool film, it has that aussie flick feel to it,,, like it was financed by the AFC.
We should catch up one day still mate!

yeah don't play to much with it. the original look is beautiful . don't try to make it look to fake. what i've saw from your original footage was gorgeous.

Settings? I use -4 detail with the SGPro, and it doesn't look that soft. I really do like the soft look though, makes it look like it was shot with a better camera, lol.

please do not add the grain, the natural grain from the camera looks fine. IMO adding grain to it makes it look more like video.

dude i've been in a same situation where I did everything perfect on my part and the finished product was great, I tested it and everything was fine at my house. But then of course something had to go wrong with their dvd player and it made the video skip the whole time. I really hate when stuff like that happens. It's totally unfair to you and the hard work you have done. I really like the look though! Very very natural and filmic look to it. Keep up the good work
