My first night time, VERY low light film with D90!!!

This was filmed in Downtown Fort Lauderdale with the D90.
I wanted to push the camera's low light ability to its extreme since I just got the camera and see what the camera would do without any intervention.
Very Promising considering I left it automatic, no tricks, yet.

promising? no offense but this looks like cell phone vga-quality video. once you do the 'tricks' it'll be a whole different story though so the sky looks brighter.

Cell Phone vga quality? Come on. I think it was pretty good for an unstaged shoot.

SHould have locked exposure, but not much else u could have done.

i guess its a little harsh since it took me a while myself to figure out how to get clean low light shots. Just not a fan of people uploading their every 'test shot.' I'm so sick of going on vimeo trying to look for quality shorts or highlights but the results i get are 'first time test' or 'test shot' etc etc

I don't mind the test shots. I think it takes awhile for an artist to discover how to use a tool. I just got my D90 a couple of days ago. It's a great artistic tool. Some folks feel the image is soft/over compressed and others feel the 5d image is to sharp blah, blah, blah.

You can't rush Art.

I'll agree it sometimes gets annoying when you want to get to the best videos of the D90, and you gotta filter through all the "Test" shots. If anything, make it private so it doesn't come up in the searches of Vimeo. I can't control what people do but I wish people got in the habit of that.

If you don't want to wade through every video then I suggest just watching the Vimeo D90 channel: Vimeo.com/D90. That way you do only get the good stuff. That being said, I think it would be a bad move if you could wave a wand and make every test video private. There are some very good first day test videos, and some of those influenced my decision to buy the D90. Test videos may also discourage people from buying it because they often display the D90's weaknesses, like the rolling shutter, which I'm sure many people appreciate the forewarning. Bad videos on the internet will never go away and telling people they should be expected to make test videos private is unreasonable. :)

that channel is anything tagged d90. it's not just "the good stuff"

Incorrect, sir. As of this post there are currently 1,076 videos tagged "D90" on Vimeo and the D90 Channel itself only has 688 videos. That means roughly 400 videos weren't deemed worth of making the cut. That's not to say everything on there is a work of art, but the moderator does a fairly good job of not putting any and every thing shot on a D90 in there. So, again, if you don't want to wade through everything, your safe sticking to that channel.

laugh, it's one guy trying to get all those d90 vids...it's not like he's going through and checkin which every single one. there's vids of crap on the channel...i've been checkin it since the day he told us he made a chan just for the d90...but whatever...

Bah, I don't think it was too harsh. I think the camera did very well on its own compared to my other camera. The main thing with the little film here is that I wanted to see what the camera would do if I didn't control the aperture and exposure. I know how, but it wasn't the point for me. First I wanted to see its habits. Not bad, actually. The D90 just wants to make everything about 2 or so stops brighter than it should.
I think although people can get discouraged by bad footage, ( or in my case ) noisy, ( I did compose it well ) it is honest. That IS what your camera will do if you don't control that ISO.
I shot another film tonight, and it should be an improvement since the point was to actually try and manipulate the camera this time. It looked cleaner in the LCD, but honestly I still need to see it in my editor before I can say how it came out.

Looks pretty good considering.

Ordered my D90 today, it's arriving xmas eve......I feel like a kid eagerly waiting to unwrap their presents. Only problem is I bought 5 lenses on ebay and none have arrived yet!

Yeah I've noticed a lot of the footage shot by novices is over exposed......but do we really want people to be able to just press a button and get amazing shots? What would they need us for?
