New Field Laptop Crashing Have yet to Connect HVx200

Hey guys , have just got in not long ago from buying new laptop for dumping footage out in the field,

its a good dell 2.0ghzx2 and 3gb ram/ firewire 4pin 1394

have installed the p2 viewer the driver

but without anyof that stuff something causing me a bit of a head ache every time i go into pc mode on the hvx it crashes the laptop. first time i connected it by fluke it came up in explorer some mxf files, but now cant connect it without it crashing my computer .. any ideas ..

it is a brand new laptop this is the first thing on my to do list as i need it for tomorrow.

any ideas ?

to add to it all im trying to install the p2 management program but its coming up check operating system and wont install.
 
Sounds like a driver conflict- that's always a tricky thing to solve on the PC. Maybe upgrade your Windows?

I'm having problems with my new dell too. I shoot to firestore with an HVX-200. I spoke to the Focus / Firestore ppl yesterday and they say the FS100 will not work with Vista. Also, my HVX has a problem as well. I can ingest from tape just fine but Premiere Pro can't export to the camera. Also, the camera doesn't see the playback at all. HELP! My Panny rep has contacted the tech ppl in Panasonic but we haven't heard back. Has anyone else had issues like this? Joe
 
I've heard on other forums where the HVX does not play nicely with VISTA. I've not worked with it myself... it's jsut what I have read else where. May be worth a Google search with the terms VISTA, MXF, HVX200, etc.

Hey guys just an update got the hvx working nice with laptop, had to go find a usb for it to pick up the camera to grab the mxfs of it using p2viewer or explorer. however it would be nice if i could get the firewire working to use on location.

any ideas why this still wont work
?
