Can you shoot straight to Hard Drive

Okay, I am sure this is not possible or there would be no need for the Firestore Hard Drives, but I thought I would throw it out...
Is it possible to use an external hard drive for shooting. For example... I have a WD Passport that is 320GB. It has the mini USB plug... would it be possible to plug that into the camera and have the footage shot right to that joker???

You can't do that- you'd need a Firestore. However the camera will download already shot footage from P2 directly to a hard drive- that's not too bad.

It just takes forever. But you can do it. I just used an old Gateway Laptop I had that was collecting dust and now it has new life as my P2 offloading station.:Drogar-Love(DBG):

You could do it only if you put a laptop in-between and ran some capture software like FCP's Log & Capture, or Avid, or EDIUS, or OnLocation.

thanks for all the help guys. i was trying to figure out a way to not have to buy a laptop... i can't afford that or the firestore... looks like my p2 cards will only be used for short shoots.

You can still dump to directly to a hard drive without a computer. You can shoot as long as you want but it will just take longer to get the info off the cards. Bu
