What are Red rattling on about?

I think Jason has marketing under his name because he's the administrator of the forum and in charge of marketing for Landmine. His signature on Reduser even says "wish I had one"... so I think he's marketing for the forums not for RED itself.

Jason "monkey balls" Ramsey ;) is the administrator and head of marketing for the "user" brand of forums (dvx, red and scarlet) owned and founded by Jarred Land.

It's not exactly easy to spot though... anyway, I shouldn't have put it as a direct quote from Red without double checking... so, for that, I appologise.

I still don't fully understand the 5fps idea though. Maybe someone can link me up to get a better understanding? Did you mean the data capatured is 1/6th the amount of cinema quality 35FF 1080p camera? That would make more sense.

jaybrich:
it cant capture 24megapixels for 24fps.. only 5fps. it can capture 1080p 30fps though.

Joseph:
this is what i meant:
cant they build a "semi-mysterium x"or "botched mysterium x" sensor that is S35 that does what the 5d mkII does (row skipping or whatever) while having better control and features? and if the sensor from canon/nikon is 'MUCH cheaper' as they say it is, they get a brain that is generally wanted. cheaper S35 1080 24p-120p, interchangeable canon/nikon mount.

Does the sensor have to be high end? It doesnt even cater to the general public.

I certainly can't argue with that :Drogar-Dum(DBG):
That has nothing to do with video though and is not something Canon are trying to say it is.... so isn't really relevant to scarlett either.

I think for their user market it does. I mean why not get a DOFA setup then. You get everything you're asking for just not at the $3000 price point so to speak. I think your best option is to wait for generation 2 of these products from Canon and Nikon.

for me, it is all about mobility, lugging a hvx200, redrock, lens kit and heavy manfrotto up a mountain ain't easy... but I am not a film maker and don't intend to use the 5D II for anything other than tripod shots and stills.

It's also about whether you can make enough money from the 5D II before the next generation comes out.... there will still be a vast resale market for the 5DII, if the video gets improved on another cam, the still shooters will still think it's a great camera to buy.

...
But, a 3,000 dollar S35 professional motion capture tool it is not.

No, its not professional and its also not S35 but rather FF35. Still I have no doubt that some people will use it with professional looking results. It is what it is, and for some purposes its a very poor tool, but for others its revolutionary.

RED can likely thank them and Nikon for pushing them to create this whole new line of DSMC cameras, and setting the bar very high.
...
I hope RED does, one day, set the bar with DSMC / Scarlet / whatever; but for now all I have seen is them talking about how they are going to. And they seem to continually change their minds about how to do it, while fantasizing about building the best camera ever made... really, I would just prefer a good camera available now (or soon at least), rather than talk about cameras that are going to be released in some changed form at some time far in the future.

think of it this way, the technology Red is implementing in their new line of cameras ranges anywhere from six to twelve to eighteen months away. but instead of keeping it a secret like Nikon or Canon, they are embracing your participation via feedback. revisions, unexpected progress and setbacks are a normal aspect to the development of any technology. Red has simply been more transparent than most. really, i don't get the complaining. the difference between Nikon/Canon and Red is you know what Red is working on.

jaybirch... seeing as how you have been a member of this forum for two years, where all the moderators names are in yellow, and all the moderators names on reduser and scarletuser are in yellow, and all the actual RED team members names are in RED, I don't see the confusion...

But, just in case from now on for the one half of one % of people like you I'll be sure and put in my signature that I am not part of RED.... duh...

I'd like to say more, but I shall refrain....

Zak..... :) yup indeed...

Later,
Jason
