Mac Users - Anyone Want A Mac Version of Panasonic's AVCHD to p2 Converter?

Would that be nice?

I was wondering if other Mac users would like to see a port of this free utility from Panasonic that is only available to Windows users?

MainConcept, the engine of it, also works on a Mac (Adobe CS3/4 uses it).

But is there an interest?

It would also nice to get a Mac version of the AVCHD viewer for the Mac. That little free app for Windows creates file/name correct folders that can be burned to BMDV discs for blu ray playing.

I really wish that Panasonic would remember that a lot of people into video production are using MACs. I know that porting the software to a MAC involves costs, BUT it also makes it more attractive to the MAC users.

By using Parallels software I can run MAC and Windows XP at the same time, but my RAM is only 2GB, so XP is limited to 512MB. As I recall, the PC software required a minimum of 1 GB to run. I guess it's time to upgrade my memory...

i would like it as well. companies need to realize that apple has a huge market share in video production. its like they still think its 1998 or something?

Keep them coming.

It seems that Apple is among the first to support so many of the Panasonic cams and codecs, but Panasonic seems to lag on bringing its software to the Mac and parity with both.

Wish it were otherwise.

I'd best over 50 percent of the HMC users will be mac people.. just like it was with the HVX.. and it likely the same thing for the EX1 and the Red cam people too...

Without starting any flame war, I have to wonder why Panasonic doesn't endeavor to bring parity to the free utilities it provides for its cameras between Mac and Windows.

Overall market share is one thing, but marketshare within this vertical segment is significantly distinct.

If half your user base is likely Mac or PC for that matter, why only write software for only one platform?

Write for neither before writing it for only one over the other.

None of us I believe are asking for a RT NLE.

What we would like is a converter than transcodes to a codec that Panasonic has developed. p2/mxf.

As Mac or PC user, we will take it from there.

I could understand not supporting mac a few years ago, but their market share is way up at this point (esp in the video segment).

What is weird is that their AVC Intra transcoder is for mac only, but their AVCHD software is PC only.

Unless they plan to put some serious upgrades into the AVCCAM viewer, I would not put too much steam into asking for a mac port. There is very little usefulness in this utility right now. Way too consumer-ish.

I'm sure fs3 will debut at nab and have native avchd editing, but a mac dvcprohd converter would be great in the meantime.
