It's A Shame... 5D vs D90

what do you know about my understanding "of that of others"?
i know that you don't understand, appreciate or respect that other people may have different reasons for choosing a camera. you're stating over and over again that this is your opinion yet you tell people that their opinions are wrong.

be focused to learn enough about your DP or directing craft
i'm a well established professional dp and director, and while i'm obviously still learning that's not my focus. i want to create. a camera with professional controls is actually a much simpler camera than one without. there's much more fiddling with controls to get what you want on an hv20. and neither cinematography nor directing was ever much about image sharpness and low light noise anyway. a tool that lets you focus on framing and camera movement, storytelling if you will, is likely to make you a better dp, not worse.

a professional is someone who lives from his/her own craft.. no less.
there's a rule on cinematography.com that you have to use your real name and provide a link to your credentials. i think that's a good rule. i'm not trying to judge you, it's just easier to discuss if you know where the other guy's coming from.

not at all.. horses for courses.. to each his own.. what i know about your needs and vice versa?..

just a general thought about to detain too much on tech irrelevant specs.. not exactly for everyone's needs, education or training.. just for the better pic.. my only goal for a camera.

the camera is the less important link of this craft.. filmmaking.. unless you do not have the sweetest capture device your project is asking for.

about that.. hvx vs hv20.. in 10 i'd choose 100% the cheapest canon just for the better picture.. not for cinematography training or education for sure..

ok, sorry for jumping to conclusions.

which is exactly why professionals rather pick the hvx. you said that the hv20 makes more sense since it takes better pictures, which is true but as you also say ultimately not relevant. i think you misunderstand when people say they need the professional controls of the hvx. it's not more they want, it's less, which as we all know is more. in my opinion a camera is supposed to be a box with a lens and a start/stop button, which ironically describes the cluttered pro cameras better. unless you put a 35mm adapter on the consumer camera as i've done with my hv20. that way it becomes the box and you control only the manual lens. it's almost like shooting 35mm. ;-)

not here.. right.. i had a look on your reel.. clean.. better than not bad.. would you accept a suggestion?.. you have clean (not same as not noisy) pics there.. you should release them better into a true teaser (different than trailer) or trailer (i prefer the latter one) they seem to worth the effort.

btw.. the s16 shines.. but s8 or hdv go very well too.. as far as pic quality is concerned right.. what combo did you use w/ hdv?..

you should release them better into a true teaser
believe me i know. too little time, or motivation, or both. i'm fairly pleased with my dp reel but i desperately need one as a director.

i'm not sure what you mean but i shot "i love you" with the fx1 straight, i really like the look. there's also some stuff on my dp reel that's hv20 + adapter + nikon primes, some imx and, well, hvx, both with p+s adapter.

your feature looks cool. like video but that's a look i'm starting to appreciate more and more. film is nice, but trying to create the filmlook on video is usually just boring. how did it look on 35mm? the trailer is straight from hdv i take it? i shot second unit on an z1 feature that's about to get blown up soon, will be very interesting.

lack of motivation cannot be excuse.. your footage is like a son.. you should never abandon him/it.. it's more valuable than gold.. it's everything for you.. it's part of you.. it's your future too.. and your footage seems worth of your care.

that's not mine.. the blow up went very well.. a far better than video.. surprisingly it goes better on the big screen.. imo they should take it as master for everything.. including trailers, promo stuff, web, dvd.. those guys have no clue about the differences they have between media.

red1 had been my 1st and only option for..

a beach requires extended DR higher than a 1/3" camera.. unless they could choose the best cam i know for the buck.. hv20.. better than the sony.. for sure.

they had some troubles w/ some scenes inside the beach bar where the director completely changed the scene mood previously written (also by him!).. the sea should have a prominent role there.. in the script not in the movie.. why?.. ignorance.. they simply thought that a z1 should be the same as shooting w/ a red1.. go figure!

d5 mk2 is the 1/3" killer.. the 35mm adapters killer too.. lee's conversion is the way.. i posted there something related to the barry's comment.. simply deleted.. it's not there anymore.. i'm still waiting for barry's answer.. at least via pm.. he knows that as much as jannard jarred and co.

oh, sorry, i thought maybe you shot it. i guess you were involved somehow? i use the pro 35 when i rent cameras, because that's what the rental companies have. i've also used the letus which i like better, and on my own camera i have one i built myself using parts from jetsetmodels. reason? it was the cheapest option. ;-)
