Can VIXIA HV30 read 100% Mini DV taped by XH-A1 ?

Hi all,

I taped footages in HD mode with my XH-A1 but would like to know if I can play back these same Mini DV tapes with Vixia HV30 ? The reason is that I don't want to use my XH-A1 to playback for capture into my PC. Before I invest to purchase the Vixia HV30, I would like to know the compatibilities.

My second question is: can Premiere Pro CS3 recognized Vixia HV30 HD, 24F HDV mode...? Anyone who successfully captured to CS3 ?

Any input will be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Cheers

On another side note, 24p from the HV20/30 can be captured but the pull down can't be removed by PP. After Effects can guess at the cadence though and remove it. CS3 will recognise your HV30 though.

Does Panasonic carry any model similar to the Canon Vixia HV30 which can read XH-A1 Mini-DV tape? What are the differences between the 3 CCD vs 1CMOS?

It seems that the HV30 doesn't have any larger upgrade from the HV20 so do you think this last one can fit my purpose?

The short answer: no.
The long answer: There are only 3 manufacturers producing HDV equipment, and only 2 of them produce consumer HDV camcorders--Canon and Sony. Seeing as Canon's model is cheaper than Sony's, it's probably your best option.

However, if you are using your A1 to record plain-old DV to tapes, then any number of MiniDV camcorders will do the job--but based on your question, I don't think that's the case.

Panasonic's 3CCD consumer cams only record in standard-def, so comparing them to the HV30 is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Even so, the HV30's single sensor performs very well in comparison to 3CCD HD cams, such as the A1. The only problem you might encounter is the notorious rolling shutter.

Hope I've answered your questions!

Hi all,

In response to your reply, I went to buy the Vixia HV-30 this past Christmas. This is to update you that it worked perfectly well. I taped in HD with my XH-A1 then used the Vixia HV-30 to capture into CS3. No problem at all. Quite satisfied and thanks for your input.

Cheers
