Check out my web video show shot on an HVX200

This is really great! I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the production, the website, the interactivity options. It's just really well executed.

Great lighting on the interviews, particularly of the photographer on the frontal shots and on the "fireside chat".

Fantastic work! This could easily be on Animal Planet, Discovery, etc.

This is amazing stuff. Looks better than many high-end shows I've seen on TV, and I'm talking HD prime-time TV!
How many people were involved "behind the scenes"? (ie. lighting, sound, editing, etc.)

Thanks EDV, I appreciate it. The show is just shot with me and Courtney, my co-producer.

My workflow is as follows.
It's usually just me shooting and my co-producer doing sound.
I shoot 720/24PN, I edit in FCP. When the edit is done, I export using automatic duck into AE.
In there, I color correct using AE features and Colorista, which I really like.
I crush the blacks a bit, add a little saturation, add some fake blurs using masks here and there,
some vignettes and white blow out transitions.
Then I export it as an Animation Codec and put it back into FCP.

I then sweeten the sound with SoundtrackPro.
Very simple, some noise reduction, a little compression and gain.

The Host of the show is shot on green screen that I hang up. A 600 arri with diffusion on her,
a 300 arri over the top of the green screen to give her some edge light and 2 Divalite 400 kinos on the green screen.
I shoot her at 1080PA and bring it into AE. I key it with keylight. I use the 1080PA footage of her in the 720 workspace
at 65% scale and when I cut closer to her I use the same shot at 100%.

Hope that helps! If there's anything else you want to know, just ask.

really nice work

my mother runs a daily dog grooming business here in Australia- its a deluxe grooming - massaging service - she loves the work and the dogs love it too - its a real alternative to the standard shampoo and shave get the numbers through services out there. I think this kind of interaction is great for both dog and human

She has superstoked clients that always come back and the business is growing - i know she will be stoked to watch the show!

Nice video work and classy cutting by the way.

looked like you had some pretty shallow dof - are you doing that in post or using an adaptor?

and one last one - the web video looked great - what kbs setting are you setting your h.264 web export to? Or to put it another way - Its always a balance between file size and quality - what overall file size do you go for - 30mb? 60 mb?

Thanks Reflex, the opening and closing are using the Letus Extreme. For the actual show I use AfterEffects to create some blurs and fake shallow dof. For the itunes HD ecode. I usually go for 2500 to 3000kb. The final size is usually about 20mb per minute. The Photo episode had more dissolves so it's bigger. You can subscribe to both versions and see for yourself.

Loved the video. I thought the sound could use some work though. It seems "echoey" - perhaps your mic was a bit too far from the speakers...

Great presentation though.

Thanks Nexis, this video was one of the first we shot two years ago and my sound chops weren't as good as they are today (hopefully). We were in his big booming log cabin, it was tough.

What a great site, I actually had an idea for the same type of site, looks like you beat me to it! My wife who breeds dogs will love it!

I agree about the sound, hopefully you have that echo taken care of!

PS where did you get the player? Did you create it? It's really great!

Thanks, Xtopher! We actually filmed in Rochester in October. A Michael Vick Pit Bull that has a new family. The Player is from www.viddler.com
You can also subscribe in iTunes, there are 7 videos up.

Latest episode of The Dog Files is up! This one is about a group of wolves at the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem, NY and the staff's dogs that lend a helping paw.
