Quantum of Solace

What really killed it for me was the shaky camera. I don't care for the action if I can't see it. If the action really is that good, then there is no need for such shakiness. Just a way to hide bad action.

I really enjoyed this. I haven't read any of the other posts in the past couple pages, but I really enjoyed it. In my opinion, he secured his role as Bond damn well in this one. One of my favourites for sure and I even saw From Russia with Love the other day again!

I think I might just see it again...

EDIT: Went back and read the last couple pages. I have to admit, I didn't analyze this movie. I didn't notice the shaky camera, or the over-the-top parkour. I enjoyed it for a wicked action flick and tried to immerse myself in the life of a secret agent. I really don't want that to be realistic, I'm sorry. I've watched all the Bond films and while I missed the SIGNIFICANT lack of gadgets (were there any, really?), I enjoyed every other part of it. I really wasn't that big of a Casino Royale fan, but they are definitely two different types of movies. I didn't really see Royale as a Bond movie...but many will disagree with that.

I thought CR and QOS were both phenomenal films... and easily head and shoulders above any of the other films in the Bond franchise.

nothing about it was a collossal mistep (ie. indy 4) and it was pretty cool, not as bad as I thought it would be, if I walked into a room and it was playing, I'd probably stay...

Do not see "quantum of solace" james bond

Hi everyone,

i just saw it an hour ago....it was the worst. Don't waste your time and money. Not even a rental.

I find Rottentomatoes more accurate to the movie's actual quality, and most movies for that matter. IMDB lets fanboys put 10's on everything they find to be awesome...lot's of movies ratings on IMDB get tarnished because people love giving 1's when there is no reason for it.

Either way more people give a 7 on IMDB than any other rating...

67% on Rottentomatoes right now.

Saw it today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The new Bond movies remind me why it's still fun to go see a movie at the theater.

one thing that they didn't really connect was his motivation, sure we're told it's because of Vesper, but I just didn't feel his bitter upsetness, this movie set itself up to be even better than CR, but instead it's a mostly forgettable action movie. I really hope they learn their lesson and get back to what made CR so good.

I liked the story and it had a couple really great moments (one involving the lottery at the hotel :)) but the editing really drove me nuts. Shakycam doesn't really bother me much at all and seeing the Bourne films in a theater never phased me in the slightest, but so many of the really good looking shots in this film just got cut way faster than I would've liked (reminded me of Tony Scott, the only major director I just outright refuse to see the movies of in theaters anymore).

Just saw it.

Action scenes where cut too fast to actually see any of the action. Like what was that move with the anchor on the rope? It went by too fast to see what he did.

It was ok, but it lacked one thign that has generally been nice and clear in bond movies (even if there have been twists, there has always been): a defined mission.

I hope that with the closing scene, they can leave behind all the "personal drama" they've drug into the last 2 films and get Bond back out doing missions (even if they are of his own desire).

I agree, it was too everywhere. I "think" he hit the anchor onto the boat and it punctured it sending the boat flying. But alas, there were times when he'd be in the car chase and the cars would slam together... then something happened and then I'd think 'how'd they unhook?' then suddenly bond points a gun and the car goes flying... that's about all I saw of the car chase.

Things I liked:

- There was more action in this one, even if you couldn't see it
- I enjoyed the 'idea' of bond just doing his thing and his agency going after him because of it
- Gemma Arterton as a redhead (hey, I have a thing for redheads :))

Things I disliked:

- It just felt like another cut and dry complicated world domination movie villain. He wants money. I commend them for not making it something about a huge laser in space, but it was awfully complex for a plan.
- The crazy action scenes. Makes me think of transformers. "what? Was that a robot or a bridge? Or a bird? I'm lost..."
- The things they took away for this new "re-vamp" of James Bond. What differentiated Bond from spy films like the bourne series was his gadgets. Sure he had a fancy camera and they had a computer table thingy from microsoft, but where are the flying cars, the pens that blow up, where's Q?!? Also they seem to like to play with the re-vamped bond by having him drink whatever like they stick it in your face. It was fun in CR where he says "Does it look like I give a damn?", but in this one when he's asked what he's drinking he says "I don't know" and the bartnender explains... They should have at least kept the "Bond, James Bond" line.

Just got back. Thumbs up, I really enjoyed the ride.

I had a couple issues *possible spoilers*. I wish there was more closure, I mean he's still after this ominous group of bad guys, but he was after them at the end of CR too, so it would have been nice to really get to the main deal here, instead it's more loose ends.

It made me angry that they cut to the bad guy saying, okay, I told you everything about Quantum Solace, now let me go. I mean, how about letting the friggin' audience in on Quantum Solace too, I'm the one who paid ten bucks. I know it's a cliff hanger, but I wanted more closure in a few different areas.

Fortunately it was a fun enough film for me to shrug all that off.
